the guys that sit out bowl games are in lesser bowls. It would take some serious stones to sit out the playoffs.

I get why some would want to sit out, a lot of players have families and kids that they want to make sure are taken care of.

On the other hand, I would want to play just to accomplish what I've been working for. I get that players' ultimate goal is to make it to the league and get paid, but a national championship is also a goal to most them.

Playoffs and championships can increase your profile, so there's benefit to them.

Other bowl games, I think it's a risk/reward balance to consider. I don't begrudge any player that chooses to skip an exhibition game.

These 1st round players have been playing football since they were 7 years old dreaming of making big money. Playing anymore college football at this point is like playing paper football with the winning lottery ticket, it's just not worth the risk.

You cant cash in a NC and go buy a house or feed your family etc. It has no monetary value to a player whatsoever.

That's correct. Some guys are also just different and want to win a national championship and assume the risk of getting hurt. After all, that is part of the game

All the players sitting out bowl games are first round talents, and have played at a high enough level that they’ve already “paid back” the cost of their education tenfold with the money they’ve brought the football program.

Sure you can. Win a title and bomb in the NFL, you can still go back to your college town and be a celebrity and use that for a career. Happens all the time.

Why play the last game of the regular season? Just a meaningless rivalry game that doesn’t compare to the money in the NFL.

Or the second to last game of the season? Probably won’t change your draft position, and just a dumb college game.

Seems like a giant slippery slope is being tread upon.

It's already happening. Money talks. You like college baseball? You will still love the new college football.
