This schedule is absolutely more difficult than normal. How often do we play UGA (at the top of their game), Bama and Auburn in the same season? Not to mention and actual tough OOC game with Miami.

I already explained this in the post you responded to. All we've done is swap UGA on top of their game with Florida on top.of their game. Now, Florida us average at best. They won 4 games last year. We've played tough OOC teams in the past and I listed them for you.

Plus, we play 7 coaches in their first year with their teams if you count Luke since he was interim last year. The first year head coach thing was a big excuse around here last year, so those should all be easy games.

The tough schedule stuff is plain nonsense.

Eta: I should've said tougher than normal.

Also, O’s hire was billed as a “non-rebuild”. He was supposedly hired for continuity

Actually he was hired to be an immediate improvement.

Damn Drac, I’ve been beating this drum for a while but nice work laying it all out like this

When you factor in the record of those schools the years before those coaches took over its even more obvious that O was in a much better situation to succeed right away

ETA: I’ve taken a liking to adding another coach to that list:

Gerry Dinardo 10-2 in Year 2

Such a bullshite narrative. It's the third toughest in the SEC West.

Alabama, UGA, MSU at home. Gimme a break

And Auburn on the road, should we suddenly definitely win every home game or something

I'd trade our full schedule for Alabama's in a heartbeat. They play Missouri and Tennessee from the East

Name the last time we played a schedule that was this tough. We are looking at 3-4 pre-season Top 10 teams, 2 being Top 5.

2019 we have Bama at Bama and UGA and UGA. So I suspect we're going to hear this same crying about the schedule next year.

Les went undefeated in the 2011 regular season with the 2nd toughest schedule in the country. No excuse.

O apologists are already gearing up for a disappointing 2018, telling LSU fans to lower expectations for their boy this season because he “needs time”.

I believe the O apologists are saying that LSU will be better than what they are projected right now. The haters are the ones saying to lower expectations because there is no way lady can win more than 6 games.

So being a first year coach is an excuse for every team we play but not an excuse for LSU?

Any if the years we played a power 5 OOC team. People have posted the past strength of schedule and this year's isn't the toughest. I wish I would have bookmarked it.

The implication in the OP is that it's reasonable to expect good coaches to produce "results" in year two. If Orgeron doesn't then he isn't a good coach.

If Orgeron produces results this year, is he a good coach?

No way man. He will have just stayed out of his own way enough to blindly luck into success while riding the coattails of Aranda’s defense and a grad transfer QB. Will be along the lines of what they say if we end up with a 10 or 11 win season.

I was looking at some schedule that said we had UGA. My mistake.

Wow y’all are really stupid dumbass frickers. I’m far from sold on coach O but to compare what he took over to anything like what Lincoln Riley took over takes a real stupid fricktard. Heisman trophy winning QB and les who played oline had a team that completely forgot about recruiting the big uglys which amazes me. Have plenty of skill position talent but both lines while not terrible have been subpar to expect win. I don’t think many people realize how far lsu has been over the last 4 years it’s been more than just subpar QB play and the biggest thing has been both lines especially the OLine

Before you start throwing tantrums like this, maybe you should look at some of the situations that were inherited by the coaches listed in the OP. Many of them were far worse than the one Orgeron took over.

In fact, Stoops had to clean up a disaster left by a career DL coach who got the OU job because he was known as an elite recruiter.

It's not an excuse for either to me. But, it seems the same people that use the first year as an excuse for LSU are now saying how tough the schedule is.

In some cases, that's true.

I didn't want Orgeron. I think the move to hire Ensminger over a top tier OC was ridiculously dumb and worthy of dismissal.

But, to think success in year 2 is a given and to make a comment like that in a vacuum is just dumb.

Honestly, if LSU wins 9 games this year, Orgeron would have done a good job. If they win 10, he probably deserves an extension.

The schedule LSU faces this year is incredibly tough.

And even that was SEVEN years ago, you see where people might be getting the "this is a really tough schedule" narrative a bit

And even then, this schedule looks a little tougher on paper from the start.

You just posted it as a liability for the teams we play.
