1986 LSU seeded #11

Beat
#1 Kentucky
#2 Georgia Tech
#3 Memphis St.
#6 Purdue

To make the final 4.

Kentucky was odds on favorite to win it all that year and had beat LSU 3 times that season.

Memphis St. was a dark horse pick to win it all, they were loaded top to bottom.

Gene's team would in todays game be a final four type team.

86 may have been Georgia Tech's best team ever.

I was there for the wins against Purdue and Memphis State in 1986. The 1st round that year was held at LSU and the place was rocking for those two wins.

Should have been 2 straight Final Fours as we got to the Elite 8 in 1987 by beating #7 GT, #2 Temple and #3 DePaul. Damn Indiana and Bobby Knight.

George Mason did not beat 3 straight top 6 seeds. They actually beat:
#6 Michigan State
#3 North Carolina
#7 Wichita State
#1 UCONN

And that's a big reason why the NCAA moved the opening round to neutral sites shortly there after.

That LSU team got on a roll and was a great story. But I don't see them getting out of the first weekend without the advantage of playing in front of a raucous home crowd in their own gym

And it took a boneheaded mistake on mizzous end for them to beat us. Sports is weird, man.

Not sure how many top 6 seeds VCU had to beat, but they had to play an additional playin game just to "get in" in their crazy year and run.

I remember the 86 and 87 teams like it was yesterday. Knight should've been ejected in 1987.

Yeah, any other coach pounds a telephone on the scorer's table PROBABLY gets a technical and is thrown out the game. I too remember it like yesterday, I still see Nikita Wilson's last second jumper falling short.

Deaf Dome has never been louder than when Anthony Wilson made the game winner. I was there. Middle- aged men were jumping up and down like little girls. Hopefully Coach Wade can bring this excitement back.

My most painful Tiger BB loss of all time. I refuse to watch any highlights.

Dale Brown should have walked right behind him and banged it twice as hard. Indy got EVERY CALL after that blow hard did that, and those sacless refs cost us a probable natty
