NIL and the portal has significantly changed the landscape of CFB. Again, 2018 is a helluva lot different than 2024 in CFB nowadays.

And recruiting is done the same exact way except players are offered NIL deals as well. I guarantee Urban Meyer can handle that. He's been an unbelievable recruiter at every stop in his career. If Urban were willing to coach at LSU, of course I'd prefer him over Kelly. Kelly hasn't won a thing in his career outside of 2 Big East titles with Cincinatti. He won those in 2008 and 2009. So it's been 15 years since he's managed anything significant in his coaching career. He played in one BCS national championship at Notre Dame and Bama demolished them 42-14. In 2018 Notre Dame made the CFP and once again, they were beaten soundly 30-3. During 7 of Kelly's 9 seasons at Notre Dame he finished 10-3 or worse. And only 2 of those 7 seasons did he finish 10-3. 3 of the 7 he finished 8-5. One of the 7 he finished 4-8. He was subpar at Notre Dame. This idea that he'll be able to win big at LSU because LSU recruits more talent is wishful thinking and a pipe dream. He's never been able to do it.

Urban Meyer has won three national championships at two different schools and finished the regular season 12-0 two other times. In his 6 seasons at Florida he finished 13-1 three times. In his 7 seasons at Ohio State he never had more than 2 losses in a season.

Urban Meyer is a much better coach than Kelly. There is a ton of baggage and drama that comes with Urban Meyer but nearly every LSU fan would look past that when LSU finished 12-2 or 13-1 every season. Saying this, it would never happen and we're stuck with Kelly. Let's hope he can figure it out one time. If LSU can put together an offense like last year with a defense similar to 2019, he might be able to get it done. So far the defense has been terrible under Kelly though.

He will definitely win more than Kelly and probably win at minimum 1 NC here . So anyone who cares about winning would be a fool to choose 9 wins a year over a natty or multiple natties .
