Seriously. Gruden + Chavis

I don't think people want the actual Nick Saban, they want the godlike Nick Saban they have built up in their minds. Because from reading the descriptions of what kind of coach he is, apparantly it was a different guy here from 2000-2004.
I want the mythical Nick Saban.

Look, we got what we wanted (a rebuilt program and a MNC). Saban got what he wanted (national exposure to get a NFL coaching job). I think many will think back at our past history as being mutually benefical. But that was then, things have changed. I still think Les is a good coach. I'll put him against any active coach when it comes to preping a team for a bowl game. We currently are rebuilding to an extent (new QB new defensive coaching) but I feel Les will get us back into the elite.

When it was rumored that he was coming back most LSU fans were suddenly very forgiving.

Do you realize that Nick's first couple of years, he was still having to rid the demons of the 90s in the LSU program. Nick's first year where most players were his recruits, LSU won the NC. He never got to that level where every player on the roster was a part of a top 5 class.

I stand corrected.
Although the KY game was a trap game coming off a big win vs Florida and we have always kinda struggled when we play in Lexington but Arkansas I never saw coming.

if miles left would i want saban back? who are my choices?
if miles is still here would i want the administration to court saban. definitely not.
IF saban were to consistently put up 10 win seasons at bama, that would be unprecedented for him. had he stayed, lsu fans would have eventually gotten tired of only winning 10 games on occasion

Was he not in the running for the job when we hired Lil Napoleon in 2000??

The problem with Miles is that none of his players beleive in him..most cannot stand him. When you dont have a leader your team will always struggle..we are winning bc of freak talent.

The intensity brought to the program is second to none.
it's unbelievable how selective people's memories are

In 2000 he was coaching in Oakland. I moved to San Fran after LSU and went to a bunch of games. He gets so fired up. Their offense was insane back then too. I want a coach that calls the plays on offense. I love seeing Payton do it. You just know they are in the moment. It would negate some of the excellent preparation that Saban's teams will display. I don't think Saban is a very good game day coach, but he prepares his team well enough to hide it usually.

Agree, but only if Miles leaves. I'm cool with the Madhatter.

If Gruden would take the job, I'd push Miles out. Look, it's a business and the CEO you want is available. If he lands somewhere else, the opportunity may never present itself again.
I like Miles. I think he should hire way more hungry coordinators than he does. We want them for the two years before they become head coaches, or coordinators in the pros. The hires we have are at the end of their careers, and I just don't think they are modern enough. Just my opinion. I love the job Miles does in recruiting, I just wish he'd take more chances with the coordinators.

No! and not ever. I am with Miles until he decides to leave. Miles had his dream job come open and he still had to coach his damn strong football team. He didn't leave at the drop of a dime. Nicky left us with Iowa.

quote:"hardass" lost the ark '02 game and the '04 iowa game because they were too tight. again, his teams have been completely romanticized to the point where people who say they want him back have completely forgotten what they hated about him when he was here
I'll tolerate that for a hardass football team.

Yes I'd take him in a second.

Please ...
Ninety percent of the fans wanted to show him the door after CapOne, Iowa, 8-5, the annual flirtations with the pros, and the abrasive style that eventually wore everyone down from players to the boosters.
He had a nice run, but no, I don't want him back.

He would make a damn good D-Co!
I find it so funny how some fans remember the past much different than it really was.
