When watching it didn't seem like he was having a good game, but then when he got defensive player of the week, I thought that I must not know what the hell I'm talking about. I guess maybe I'm not that dumb after all.
Those awards are handed out by the media department at the conference office. All they look at is stats. They have no idea what the player actually did in the game. They also try to distribute them fairly evenly around the conference.

Take that grade shite with a grain of salt. Last year there were 8 ole miss players “graded” above Fournette. The dude seriously had 7 carries for 249 yds at one point.
Devin is so fast and instinctual that he gets too the ball carrier on damn near every play, he also over pursues quite a bit.
People forget that this is his 2nd year player LB full time. He came to college as an RB and that’s what he focused on growing up.
When this kid puts it together, he’s going to be impossible to stop.
He reminds me so much of Patrick Willis it’s stupid.
Willis combine #’s : 6’1” 240lb, 22 bench reps, 4.51 40, 39” vert, 119” broad
White today is listed at 6’1” 240lb, at the opening (at 255lbs) 4.49 40, 37.9” vert, he threw the powerball 44 feet, one of the farthest throws at the event, including lineman.

Still wins SEC player of the week

Just wrap them and drop them Devin. NO need for the ESPN big hit on every play. Just take care of your business, easy day.

He received defensive player of the week. PFF is fake news.

Key didn't do much and only had three tackles after looking like a monster against Bama
I was thinking the same.
Devin seems to be going for the big hit instead of focusing on tackling technique.

It's the difference between being in the right place and defeating a lineman to be in on a tackle and making a lineman look foolish and making a play.
It's a shame he's not on the Butkus list.

Believable. He had a rough game.
This... but i would be Donnie Alexander below him

White did have a bad game. He tried tackling high way too many times and missed a lot of tackles. He was also all over the place.
Despite that, his athleticism and instincts still let him be in position to make plenty of tackles, sometimes much further down the field than we're used to.

One thing I've noticed about Alexander is that many times he's an OLman's dream... standing flat footed waiting for the play to come to him.
Pulling lineman just salivate as they come around the corner with his eyes lazered in on the backfield presenting a square target where they don't even have to extend their arms to get into him.
Either engage/throw the block, or get in position where they don't have an angle. Many times he does neither. Guy could be a heat seeking missile, but always seems to make the wrong positional choice.

That's funny considering he is the SEC defensive player of the week

Seems White is trying to tackle everyone at their shoulder pads. I keep waiting for a targeting call on him as often has he is hitting high. Still best defensive player on the team and no doubt will clean it up.

They just look at box scores, nothing to really take away from that.
White did not have one of his best games, anyone who watched it saw him miss at least 3 solo tackles.

How do you score that low with 14 tackles??

By missing a handful of others

Devin had an uncharacteristic game so I will give him a pass, but Donnie Alexander is inexcusable and he deserves the worst performance imo

But he still had 14 tackles.
I think he needs to hit people lower. He goes high a lot.

13 assists, he blatantly missed at least 3 solos
