I’m not a Woodward apologist, but 10 year contracts while a gamble, are not uncommon in CFB.

There are a host of CFB with these massive contracts and guarantees. This is not unique to Woodward or LSU.

How common were they before the Jimbo contract?

I could see that this contract fricked us for the next 10 years from 3000 miles away. No one who knows football thought hiring a 60 something year old head coach who killed a grad assistant, continuously throws his players under the bus, and was celebrated leaving by his fan base was a good idea.

There have been plenty of older coaches with big contracts

Other than cig, who just landed a p-5 job, what top program has an old balls coach?

You're not getting big names to coach at LSU with 5 year contracts. Wake up

Who cares?

Best hires over the last decade
Kirby smart DC
Lane kiffin cusa coach
Dan Lanning DC
Drink Sun Belt coach
Curt cignetti sun belt
Ryan day OC
Freeman DC

Any of the above could have been gotten with a 5 year contract

Largely failures/disappointments
Kelly
Lincoln Reilly

Don’t forget, Kiffin was available when we hired BK.

Woodward gave Jimbo the initial contract at A&M.

The A&M Board of Regents gave Jimbo the bad contract

The initial contract was 10/75, which was the worst contract in CFB history at the time it was given

Hot take: we'd be just as mad at Kiffin as we are at BK, with the same lack of success.

Bull shite!!!
Ten years is ridiculous for ANY CONTRACT FOR ANY ONE!
The initial contract should have been 5 years with three year guaranteed extensions every year your team makes the play offs. Also guarantee to at least match the highest paid coach’s yearly salary if you win it ALL!

Kelly doesn’t put in the time at the building. Woodward forced Brad Davis on him, I’m told, and he has lost his political backing. Jay and Kim will be his consolations.

We need a collapsed finish, not a meaningless win over A&M like Miles got, to get this done.

But it wasn't considered bad until Jimbo got all fat and happy after the 2021 extension.

It was always bad

Some people just took longer to realize that

Like those who wanted Nuss over JD or Flynn over JR. Always was wrong

It was a lazy hire and a stupid contract.

The AD develops the contract and presents it to the Regents. Blame Scott, he wrote it up.

Why is anybody surprised at this point? This is the same guy who killed the basketball program when he decided to stab Will Wade in the back. The two biggest sports in college now are essentially reduced to rubble at LSU.

Does anyone really care about women's basketball or any other women's sport outside of family and friends?
