Watched replay again last night. Here are the observations:

Good:

1. Ron Brooks played a hell of a game. he was unstoppable on every snap.

2. Mathieu, played a hell of a game, was sound on tackling all night aside from the sack where rainey was going to throw a halfback pass and he got away, but TM7 ended up staying with the play and getting him anyway. Also forced a fumble that was called back upon review. batted 2 passes including one that was intercepted by Taj Jones, had a great punt return. Kid was all over the place again.

3. Jordan Jefferson. Watch it again and he played lights out. he threw the ball incredibly well. he attempted quite a few long passes in this one that weren't complete, but they were all on target and he gave Randle a chance to go up and get them. Randle just didn't get them. He also scrambled well and took care of the ball. Had another long pass that should have been caught by Shepard. Jefferson looked outstanding.

4. Blue/Ford--Both ran exceptionally well. Blue got more action and had some long runs, but Ford actually broke several tackles, made some amazing cuts and got yards that weren't necessarily blocked for him. Great game by these two.

5. Faulk---Beast mode all game.

Bad:

1. Francois--could not cover the TE at all. Same thing all season. his one responsibility is to cover running backs and TEs on passes and he never makes plays.

2. Shepard--dropped a pass that hit him in both hands.

3. James Wright. didn't know the plays.

4. Montgomery--got beaten one on one several times in this game. It was a bad game by his standards. he jsut didn't show the normal tanacity we are used to--probably due to the opponent.

5. Beckham---fast and loose with the ball on special teams. didn't really get much separation on his routes all night.

5. Kick Coverage--they returned a 73 yarder that would have been a TD had it been an SEC caliber returner. Upon rewatch it looks like Blue got wide of his lane and then fell down, but the safeties were in bad position to contain it and the kicker got demolished on a block. this needs to improve.

I noticed the same about Francois and have been watching him fall behind TE's and RB's in pass coverage all season. I think it was more apparent this game because Chavis wanted to work the LB's a little bit, we played a lot of 4-3 which required Francois to be in coverage as opposed to Brooks or Mathieu in our base nickel package

Bad
4. - I think this is 2 fold - he left it all on the field @ Bama..coupled with the opponent...hard to get excited for a 5-4 lower tier team at best.

I agree. Not sure what all the uproar was about.

While I agree with most of the assessments Jefferson is still waiting to long to throw the ball. He waits until the receiver is past his breaks before letting the ball go. This hurts the receivers YAC and completions.

On the flip side he is much more willing to stay in the pocket and wait for a receiver to get open than Lee. He is not scared for sure and did throw the ball better than last year.

I'll add one to the good column, Minter played outstanding. I know he's the "big" guy in the middle, and isn't supposed to be as good as Hatcher when we play spread teams, but I'd like to see him out there some more and see if he can make some plays. He can't play worse than Hatcher honestly.

Doesn't seem to have the "vision" on returns. Hell of a defensive ball player though.

Blue looked great.

5. Kick Coverage

Has anyone heard why Wing didn't punt on the free kick after the safety? You rarely ever see the kicker after a safety.

I just can't agree with this. I didn't watch it again like you, but I'm not going to give him an outstanding grade in a game in which he held the ball for 5 seconds in his own endzone. Yea, he was only given one option on the play call, but when he realized Randle was double covered, the ball should've been in the 3rd row behind the LSU bench.

And that wasn't the only play of the night where he took way too long to deliver the ball.

Also, 8/14 is hardly outstanding, unless all 6 incompletions hit receivers square in the hands.

It was a diving catch. I don't care how many hands he got on the ball, he fully laid out for the ball. It was not a drop. I'm not saying that it was a bad pass, I'm just backing Shepard on this one by saying that it was not a drop.

Landry had a great play coming back to the ball and making a nice catch when Jefferson scrambled. he made it look easily. showed great wR instincts. when the pocket broke he took his route long as you are supposed to...then when he saw jefferson double back he came back to the ball the way you are supposed to...He needs to be getting all of Shepards snaps on offense. No reason why Shepard is getting any snaps out there.

Pretty sure it wasn't 5 seconds. And what did you want him to do with the ball? He had ONE fricking receiver. He couldn't just throw the ball away, because he was in the pocket and that would have been grounding anyway.

I think Rantards have no clue how fast the game actually moves. Credit him for not panicking and throwing a lob directly to a safety for a pick (hint, hint).

There was a huge block in the back to spring it.

I wouldn't say he played lights out. He played well. Our production for the QB position was similar to what its been all year. He was accurate on his short to intermediate throws which was nice to see.

I agree. Not sure what all the uproar was about.

JJ played well by his standards but left several of the deep routes short. Had he led Randle properly he gets a couple more scores. The Shepard pass you refer to was overthrown slightly and could have been caught but it was by no means a gimme. ODBJ may make that catch but not many guys on the team come up with it. Lee also had one bad miss but it looked like Wright was probably the culprit there.

I also don't think he was expecting a defensive lineman to come through and tackle his face. It looked like the guy went from unseen to completely holding Jefferson's entire body in a fraction of a second.

In the upcoming big games, I do NOT want to be depending on RS to make a clutch 3rd down catch.

I was sitting on floor level in the back of the South Endzone. I saw when LSU broke the huddle that LSU had only one receiver, Randle, and that he was double covered BEFORE THE SNAP. You asked what should have Jefferson done, he throws the deep ball over Randle's head and Les Miles catches the ball on the sidelines. That's not intentional grounding.

I think this Rantard knew that much.

the uproar wasn't about him playing poorly, it was about Jefferson starting and then playing every meaningful snap while the guy who started and led us to a 9-0 record sat on the bench until the fourth quarter. I thought Jefferson played pretty well so I'm not saying Lee should have played all those snaps, but that's what the uproar was about
