With Saban retired and Harbaugh in the NFL, Kelly may be the top name in college football.

Sherrone Moore obvious choice, but here are other Michigan football head coach candidates

Kelly, 62, won two Division II national championships at Grand Valley State (2002-03) as he turned the Lakers into a powerhouse; he went 118–35–2 in Allendale and at one point won 32 consecutive games at GVSU.

He was hired at Central Michigan in 2004, and by his third year turned a 4-7 team into a 9-4 MAC champion (2006). He also led Cincinnati to a pair of Big East titles, took Notre Dame to the 2013 national championship game, and won 10 games in each of his first two seasons in Baton Rouge.

With Saban retired and Harbaugh in the NFL, Kelly may be the top name in college football.

Appreciate the mere fact that LSU's head coach Brian Kelly is held in such high regard. LSU will win another title soon, Kelly has all the pieces in place to do so. And Kelly knows it. With a no1. recruiting class in 2025, Kelly could be the next college football head coach to win two national titles back to back. Saban was Kelly's biggest obstacle, now he's gone!

I love the effort but I’m gonna say Kirby Smart might be a tad bigger

Kirby exists, but yea I like where we are at here.

Gotta give Smart his due, he has skins on the wall. We’re in the game though.

Let’s not get too carried away here but I do like where we’re at. Kirby’s still at UGA and will be a force in the SEC.

It's surprising to see Smart be overlooked so much. Last time I checked, he has two more championship trophies than Kelly. Hell, even when Saban left you had several talking about how the SEC was now "wide open"...seemingly forgetting about Georgia and that, arguably, but for one SECCG, Georgia had probably already passed Alabama in terms of conference dominance

Back-to-back national titles by both Saban and Kirby. Kelly could be the next college head coach to do so, he certainly has everything in place. Top staff, top recruits, and Saban is no longer a major obstacle.

Kirby is #1, but I don’t think it’s crazy to say Kelly is in the 2-5 range. Dabo has a lot of accomplishments.

Personally there’s only 1 coach in the country I would take over BK. So I’d have him pegged at #2.

True! Where we're at also, is that Kelly had to defeat the two best coaches in the country every year in his backyard. Now it's down to one.

Name Shname. Even with his years experience he shite the bed with his defense coach choices. I get nobody is perfect. But he had Ramond and Blake on the payroll the day he came over.

Kirby and Sarkisian. They both younger with potential staying power. We are in year 3 of 10. Kelly will be in his 70's then.

Winning back to back national titles will be harder now than it's ever been. We see in every other sport with a larger playoff that the best team doesn't always win. With 12 teams versus 2 previously, and then 4, you have to go through more of a gauntlet.

It's obviously possible, but it will get harder for anybody to accomplish it now.

You really think LSU fans and Woodward would have loved it if Kelly came in and promoted Baker to DC and kept Raymond that were on Ed Os staff?

The idea was for Kelly to come in and start it all over from the ground up. Had Kelly kept most of the players and staff we wouldn’t be set up like we are today.

Winning multiple titles in a short span requires consistent top 3 recruiting classes. Not sure we’ll be able to swing that but we should start to be in the mix every year.

2026 class might be better than the 2025 class

We’re in line for 4 of the top 9 players in that class
