No offense to the kid but we will be in serious trouble if he’s getting notable playing time

Reading this post, it is easy to see why LSU will not compete for a National Championship. The RBs will not be able to give the QB proper support. Teams will go after the qb if they disrespect our running game which as of today appears to be dubious.

JT was probably going to redshirt and play very little!

The walk on won't see any playing time. I would imagine that Ju'Juan Johnson would move back to RB to shore up the depth considering that Colin Hurley is back at QB.

I think you are under rating this kid. He runs 4.5, 5' 9" 203, a two time state champion power lifter and one the strongest pound for pound players on our team. As I remember Josh Williams was also a walk on, about the same size, as fast if not faster, but not as strong as this kid. The coaches took him for a reason. If he doesn't get playing I am also happy about that, means our scholly RB's are not injured and doing the job.

I mean- Lindsay was our 4th string RB. We were probably in trouble if we got to him anyway

This tells me they're looking for ways to get this kid on the field early and I'm all for it!!

I’m pretty certain now that Jujuan Johnson is going to probably be that 4th RB now. Which is a good thing imo.

It’s football not powerlifting. That doesn’t necessarily translate to running back skills like quickness, vision, burst/elusiveness, etc. He will likely be fine contributing on special teams. Josh Williams was a rare exception. He is not a common example. Let’s wait before we declare this kid the next Josh Williams. That’s a lot of pressure for a walk on.

Agree that special teams is a more reasonable expectation for him at this point. He played fullback in his HS offense and only really got the ball between the tackles and doesn't have proven catching skills or elusiveness on his film, so wouldn't expect him to contribute to a power 5 team at least now, but he is definitely plenty strong and can move a defender at the point of contact (he scored 6 TD's in a game last year, all but 1 from within the 5). He's also got really good work ethic and is the type of walk-on that could end up with a scholarship, especially if he can learn to pass block (Episcopal didn't drop-back pass) and catch out of the backfield.

I don't think using Chavin for a few plays to rest our starting RB's will toast our season. Never said he would be a starter just help. Ever heard of Josh Williams?

Josh Williams was a legit SEC starter. He is currently with the Tampa Bay Bucs. You know, the NFL team.

unlikely that you can count on Berry to be a 3 down RB from day 1.

Ideally you wouldn't, but Kevin Faulk balled from jump street. Berry, though smaller, has that kind of talent

Well "you know" no one else except LSU thought he could play in the SEC. Josh Williams fought and worked his way into playing time. I watched a lot of film of the Chavin kid. He has got good speed (as much or more than Williams), good moves and great strength (more than Williams). No, he is not projected as a back that will be in our RB rotation, when Williams signed he wasn't either. The kid has something a lot of the high paid RB's don't have, HE WANTS TO BE HERE NIIT ABOUT MONEY.

Bring back the package with Harold Perkins at TB

Gnash is it??? I think this place would rather trot you out there as a RB as opposed to Perkins. But hell, why not enlighten us with more next level brain moves. Maybe put Nuss under center and run the toss dive to Ramos.... that could be something, right? GEAUX play in traffic.

I respectfully disagree. Strenght and stamina is a huge part of football. However, just that without speed, moves and desire will not get you on the field as an SEC backup RB. I watched his film he has speed, good moves, strenght and apparently the desire to play at LSU. I do compare him to Josh Williams without saying he will ever play as Williams did but he could.

Can't ever hurt to have a walk-on kid that has those measurables and desire to be here no matter what school clarification he came from. Lastly, LSU must have saw something in this kid cause they took him as a walk on.

No one thought Joe Burrow was worth fighting for. Lots of teams misevaluate, and sometimes they evaluate okay but the players get better. Josh Williams as an example that a little-regarded walkon can become an excellent player is fine. And maybe your guy will too. It’s been done lots of times. But 98% of the time it does not work out and they are practice dummies.
