I just happen to know a bit about UW, being as I live here and watch all of their games. Sorry for being knowledgeable.
Living in Madison, WI certainly gives you a super advantage. If only there were only an invention that could virtually make geographical boundaries almost irrelevant.

So what's your excuse for your ignorance, then?

Melvin Gordon is elite
While I do think Gordon is a great back that will do very well in the NFL, most of that highlight reel was against some pretty terrible teams.
And who is that guy for Tenn. Tech that ran him down? That guy was flying.

Not shocking. Tenn Tech and Wisconsin recruit the same types of players.

While this is a moot point, as Stave will be our QB, McEvoy played QB for Steve Spurrier at USC but lost out to Conner Shaw and decided to transfer to a JUCO. After he got to UW he was strongly in the QB competition during fall camp until he broke his hand. That is why he was moved to safety. It was not that he was a terrible QB, he was just too hurt to throw while his natural athleticism allowed him to contribute on D. Notice that this year when UW has an open S spot there has been zero talk of Tanner moving back there. He is and always has been a QB.
That's fine. He was brought into the discussion like he was some kind of savior for Wisconsin's QB situation. The reality is he's been unable to win a starting job three times now. I read an article yesterday from last season that said he had lost the QB battle prior to the wrist injury, and would be playing WR. He was moved to safety after that.
I've never once said this would be an easy game for LSU. It seems like a matchup between two teams with similar offensive philosophies. And with similar question marks coming into the season.
I personally believe that past performance is the best indicator of future outcomes. My confidence in LSU is based on the fact that Les Miles tends to have his teams well prepared for games like this one.

I think the "new packages" UW is installing are for McEvoy. I think they'll insert him into specific situations to try to throw LSU off. I'm thinking red zone.

Gordon is the real deal but he has not been a feature back yet so we will see how he responds to being 'the guy'. I really think the star for the Badgers in this game may be Corey Clement, the 2nd RB. He is just a true soph but he plays the game much more physically than Gordon. LSU's strength on d matches up pretty well with what Gordon does best, which is one cut and then run faster than everybody else on the field. Unless the O-line is blowing open holes like it did against USC in our last game, he may not have a huge game. But I think Corey will.
He is one of those RB's that thrives on contact and flashes an attitude when he runs that I think will be ignited by LSU. Despite being 3rd string behind two 1,400 + backs Clement still ran for over 500 yards at 8.2 ypc. I think he is going to blow onto the scene this year and LSU will be his coming out party.
Clement

Yeah the hype about Tanner was misplaced I think. Though that doesn't change the basic facts that some on here were wrong about calling him a converted S.
Stave is a very underrated QB. People forgot that he was just a Sophomore last year. He was inconsistent but by no means terrible (outside of the PSU game but in fairness the whole team was awful that day) and when he played well he looked legit. I think the QB 'competition' at UW this year was, as a previous poster noted, much more for Stave's benefit than an open tryout. The staff may have been hoping that Tanner showed significant improvement because he is much more in line with the new staffs preferred model for QB, but it was never something that UW was counting on to have a chance against LSU.

While I think the game will be painfully close, I am enjoying your repetitive theme

Dude, Gordon is a fantastic athlete, but to say it isn't close is freaking stupid.
I only base this on what has been said about him not from the media or hyperbole but from what his own former teammates Montee Ball (NFL RB, Heisman finalist, and all time NCAA TD leader) and James White (NFL RB) said about him. They both thought Gordon was the most overall gifted back on the team two seasons ago. Trust me Melvin's game gotten much better and he is stronger as you can see by his YPC Avg. Those two RB's thoughts on him hold a lot of weight with me. Not saying LSU doesn't have some studs, the two you mention are but... Melvin is one of the elite players in all of CFB. The NFL Scouts and almost everyone in the media agree he is special and hence he is on the watch lists for both Heisman and Doak awards because of it.

I know who Fournette is... but can you honestly say that he is in the same league right now as Gordon? He might be, but freshman RBs rarely are ready to dominate in their first NCAA season. UW's Ron Dayne, Marshall Faulk, Herschel Walker, OSU's Marcie Clarett and A.P. are the ones that come to mind for me. That's some rarefied air! He has a lot to prove. We shall see...

What we know is he has the talent to be one of the best CFB RBs in recent memory. His talent, athletic ability, and work ethic are through the roof. And yes, he is a better athlete than Gordon.
Is he an elite CFB running back right this second? Probably not. Will he be very soon? Almost certainly. Injury is the only way LF gets slowed down.

This is why people refer to him as "rare".

He belongs in that company, for sure. For a more recent comparison, think UGA's Todd Gurley -- who ran for almost 1400 yards his freshman year in the modern SEC.
And we think Fournette is going to be better than him.
