I am 71 and have been an LSU fan since my elementary school days. I intend to remain an LSU fan regardless of our success and regardless of the college football landscape. That's my tradition. I couldn't care less about the traditions of the SEC in 1965 or now. I am an LSU fan even if LSU joins the Big 10.
I’m about half of That and I’ve chosen and paid for my colors, though honestly it’s determined solely because where I was born and raised. I’m a son of the bayou. Grew up with one in my backyard.
I bleed purple and gold and I lament the day I don’t. It’s my tribe, part of my identity. I’ve written The Ballad of the 2019 Tigers. My allegiances are set. The memories I’ve made tailgating, and in that Grand Coliseum called Death Valley, I’ll take to the grave.
I hope the day never comes when I say “I don’t care about LSU Football.”

The relentless pursuit of money has ruined many things. I’m afraid collegiate sports is becoming a victim.

the basis for those TV contracts that have spawned all of the changes disappear?
To me, it's doubtlessly moving towards a TV dominated sport, if we're not there already. I think a lot of teams will keep their base, even if it's smaller than NFL teams

I don't mind the conference changes. My team is my team. NIL and unlimited portal moves bother me much more than conference changes.
Of course money is the issue.
This new change gives the Big Ten access to six of the nation's seven largest TV markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, and Washington DC. The only one of the seven largest markets not in Big Ten area is Dallas.

Does that mean the SEC tries to sweep all of Florida by adding FSU Miami FL?

Like a few others have posted, as long as the uniform says “LSU”, I’m watching and I am going to care. I am still going to watch “college” football in whatever form it morphs into. My sincere hope is that this is the beginning of the end for the NCAA. Emmeret is finally leaving and hopefully the conferences come together and establish some sort of control over the institutions and athletics and the NCAA can pound sand.

The fans are being left out of this plan. I can see half empty stadiums becoming commonplace.
This is all about ESPN not wanting to pay top dollar but for maybe 30 or so teams. So many teams will be left out and some will surprise you.
Possible left out in Big Ten:
Illinois
Indiana
Northwestern
Rutgers
Minnesota
Possible left out in SEC:
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Missouri
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
The Big12, ACC, and PAC12 are in trouble with their high profile programs being taken by the SEC or the BIG.

My question is more about where this ends. It seems most people think that teams will remain controlled by the universities and tied to laws governing college sports. I just don’t see that as the end result. Is some kid making $2M per year going to have to sit out games for being academically ineligible? I doubt it. Then, if the ability to play for the team is not tied to academics, what is the point of only having only university students on the team?

Well if the school can’t enforce academic standards then it isn’t the schools team and what are we into then? How can they use a University’s facilities, name, payroll, support staff, tutors, etc if the school can’t control who represents it?

I think that the Big & SEC are going to create a new top level of College Football and this level will leave behind the programs which just are not really on the same level and are just drawing a check that the top teams (Texas, OU for example) actually earn. Teams like Kansas, Iowa State, TCU, Texas Tech, and others will be at a different level.
I think is at that point done and these top teams will govern themselves.
Look at Alabama, LSU, UGA. Is Washington State, Cal, Kansas, etc really on that level? No.

After the first shift becomes a reality and in place, my wonder is what the next move becomes?
Let's say a Vanderbilt, Missouri, South Carolina, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, etc. are continuing to get drubbed in the super conferences and others like a Miami, Florida State, Stanford, Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame, BYU, etc. want in. How does that influence what the super conferences look like, say, ten years from now? Will those that don't have $100 million NIL payrolls start falling out of the super conferences to be supplanted by schools presently on the outside with larger NIL funding that are looking to get in? That circumstance could occur with the "haves" and "have nots" becoming even more significant.

If teams like A&M start winning championships….yes it will be a turn off.

Not so much. I've found that as I get older, I care less and less about LSU football. The more it strays from those nights playing Tulane, Ole Miss and Alabama, the less it means to me.
The stadium atmosphere is generic garbage now. Barely ever hear the Golden Band From Tigerland, no more Mike, and televised games that break up the action so much, you almost forget you're there to watch a football game.
The tailgating atmosphere has changed as well. It's more corporate, less ad hoc than it used to be. It's become cold and not as welcoming as it used to be.
Then there are the players. I remember Tommy Casanova winning All-America 3 times in a row. Than can never realistically happen again. It's more like college basketball now where you basically get a whole new team every season.

No way the state of Louisiana will ever own LSU Football.
You're joking, right?
It is called, "Louisiana State University Football" isn't it?
