Wade's done an incredible job of turning the program around. He's recruited a lot of talent and they're playing great right now, but he still has a long way to go. No SEC championships, no tournament appearances. I'm going to wait to see what happens with the recruiting violations before I start putting him up there with best coaches in LSU history.

Nick Saban was not a “good” hire at the time . LSU settled for him as like always the heavy hitters turned us down
All of that is false

Lsufball19 ,
Facts, Saban was hired after several turned it down.
Hell, Gerry D skull drug his arse, and he had @ no1 draft pick at qb.
He was not the coach here that he is at Bama , nowhere close.

He "skull drug" Saban in his first year at Michigan State. Michigan State had just fired their president and forfeited the entire 1994 season due to an NCAA investigation. It was a complete disaster and rebuild he walked into. By the time he left Michigan St, 4 years later, he was a very hot commodity and had just led Michigan State to a #7 finish. LSU doubled his salary and made him one of the highest paid head coaches in the country. Only Bowden, Spurrier, Fulmer, and Stoops made more at the time. You said he wasn't a very good gire at the time. That is just flat out wrong.

never said he was

Mack brown
Dennis Erickson
The search was going very slow, lack of interest . It’s was getting to the eleventh hour.
Head hunters were hired to find the coach and saban was offered in the end. He did some good things for LSU no doubt, but he did not dominate crap , nor is he the GOAT hire at LSU . Skip, Les , Dale brown , Charlie MAC, in this order imo.

fricking stupid
Took a losing team and won a NC in year four had the program set for insane years 2005-2007. Won th me fist NC since the 50s.
He was also hired in November.
Not exactly the witching hour.
Our season ended Nov 26

LSU owes Saban and Emmert a huge debt of gratitude for dragging us into the modern era.

Some of these posts have got to be trolls. Gerry Dinardo went 4-7 and 3-8 his last two seasons. He left the program in shambles. What Saban did after him was nothing short of spectacular.
Saban brought us our first national title in 45 years and brought our program to the brink of what Bama is right now just before bolting for the NFL. Imagine if he would have been here during the 05,06, and 07 years. Those teams would have been even more talented and way better coached. We would have won several more national titles.

Ed O. The football team finished 6th in the country and is trending well. He certainly reversed a downward trend. And the recruiting class this year should keep pushing us forward. Plus, we got him at a bargain, and he helped us save money from the Miles buyout. Without question, the football team drew a lot of attention in the media and was on a national stage pretty much every week.

But when you look at the overall body and financial impact of things, Ed O has been a spectacular hire.
I agree with those that say it is to soon to put Coach Orgeron on that list. While he is certainly looking like a very good hire so far, he has a lot to prove over the next few seasons. The prospect of him being one of the all time most unlikely home run hires in LSU history is looking like a very strong possibility but we should just leave it at that for now.

Dinardo should not be on the list and those that suggest it are probably trolling but he did set the table for Saban and left the team stacked with talent that helped Sabqn get the program back on its feet. tHOUGH A GOOD HIRE But in no way is he one of the very best hires at LSU

I hate to rain on your parade, but Wade has yet to win a natty in his albeit short tenure. Bertman won 5, Saban 1, Miles 1, Mainieri 1, Dietzel 1. Until Wade wins the whole thing, he can't be ahead of any of these guys even if he has brought LSU out of the cellar.
