Will the offense have to carry the defense early on?

Ryan Clark is quoted in the advocate saying:

“For the first time in a while I think the offense is going to have to play well and carry the defense for a little bit.”

I am somewhat surprised by that statement. Anyone else?

I think this is stupid. We return a ton of experience and talent on defense and it is the same scheme/coordinator.

The offense will have a lot of new stuff installed and I'd expect them having more growing pains.

The anticipation for this new offense is reaching a fever pitch. It's going to carry the defense. Can't wait to see this.

Is there context for this? Was this when the three big stars (Chaisson, Grant, Fulton) were missing from practice and maybe he was suggesting that IF they missed the start of the season, the offense would carry...etc?

Well, RC is wrong. If we have a starting offensive linemen go down during the season, we'll be in some trouble. Defense will then be carrying the offense as per LSU football.

Weird statement considering we will have one of the top defenses in the country.

Former LSU defensive back Ryan Clark was skeptical about quarterback Joe Burrow

Maybe he meant they could carry the defense. Will be nice if they can carry their share against the good teams.

Not sure why he said that. We return pretty much everyone on defense minus White, Greedy and J. Battle. The defense should be damn good with an improved DL.

The offense looks solid on paper, but we’re running a new offense with some questions on the OL. As of now, I have more confidence in the defense than the offense to come out the gates looking good.

The quote was

How would that make sense? It's been the norm for the defense to carry the offense.

Clark is around the program. He knows what he's seeing.

If the offense is better than the defense at this point. Watch out!
This is going to be a wild ride!

Tell us again about his first assessment of Joe Burrow.

While I don’t dislike Ryan, he is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. And is certainly more knowledgable about the NFL (as he should be) than CFB. This thread is a nothingburger.

Maybe he meant "has the ability to" not "will have to"

Certainly would be nice to give the D a break every once in a while
