Will the new CFB clock rules help or hurt LSU this year?

The clock now keeps rolling after every first down, except for the last two minutes of each half.
It’s a terrible rule for the sport in general. But do you think it will help or hurt LSU this year?

Will only hurt us if our players arent being coached up to know the new rules. I trust our coaches will have the players ready

Hate the rule. NFL games too fast.
I want college FB games to last 4 hours lol

Watching games today for sure less plays. Game seems to be moving pretty fast this is really big plus for running team that like to eat up the clock. Which it isn't many of them around anymore.

Definitely advantage for teams who try to run and control clock, are a big underdog... can milk possessions. I hate the rule change. Will lead to 1-2, less possessions a half. Almost every change they make to the sport makes it worse

I think it generally hurts teams that play tempo and run a ton of plays, and helps teams that rely more on sustained drives/field position (I hesitate to call it “ball control” because that’s not really a thing at the top tier of CFB anymore, but you get the point).
That being said, LSU was roughly in the middle of the SEC pack for plays per game last year. We mostly ran tempo situationally rather than trying to run a shitload of plays every game. I think it’s mostly going to be neutral for LSU. Maybe a slight positive because Ole Miss is in our division and I do think it hurts Kiffin’s offense a little bit.
I agree that it’s a dumb rule in general. I’m curious where the pressure to make this change even came from. It seems like it would have had to come from the networks, which is ironic because the networks have more control over the length of games than anyone.
ETA: It will be interesting to see how coaches adapt to the new rules. Do you try to run more tempo to keep opposing defenses from staying fresh the whole game, or do you focus more on the field position game knowing that you won’t have as many chances to score? How does it impact 3rd and 4th down decisions?
Either way it still comes down to being able to move the sticks, but I think it has to have some impact on high-level strategy.

It will help underdogs. Fewer plays, smaller sample size, more flukes

For sure it has had its intended result — more commercials. It is noticeable indeed.
They still have same 3-3.5 hour time slot but fewer plays and less playing time, thus more time to insert fricking ads.

Amen! I wait from January to September for football season. Who gives a shite if a game last 4 hours?
Want to speed up the “game”? Stop having commercials after every first down, score, change of possession. (I know, money will not allow that).

Advantage this year if Maason Smith can stay healthy. Will put an emphasis on running and stopping the run

This right here ^^^^^^ is the real problem. Too many frickin' commercials. Yesterday was barely tolerable with the number of commercials, and the talking heads ruining the game in general.

Raise the price of the commercials and do fewer commercials
Companies will pay it.
Limited supply equals higher cost.

Exactly Slevin7. Problem is that how many local companies can afford the commercial time. It will probably be mostly national companies who could afford them.

I’d considered that and I don’t know the answer. Are there a lot of mom and pop commercials? There’s NIL money but no money for a commercial?
I’m genuinely asking. I watch most games on some streaming service. I don’t know that I see the same commercials. Sometimes I just see the SEC logo for two minutes

Honestly, I am fine with less companies being able to afford it/fewer commercials. I’m not paying attention to any of the commercials, don’t think that’s unusual. If that means fewer commercials, I’m perfectly fine with that

If LSU has the lead at the end of the game and the other team runs out of time, it’s good for LSU. If LSU is down and runs out of time, it’s bad.
You’re welcome.

If I recall when the games are on CBS/NBC/ABC/Fox they have to show a certain number of local ads so they have to make it affordable to those people.
If it was up to the broadcast companies they would only do big national companies and charge a ton for a slot.

Seems pretty lame so far. You can def tell the game is moving faster, with less plays.

They should have done it at the 5 minute mark, like running out of bounds.

it will limit wholesale, situational substitutions on both sides, so the extent of effects will depend on how well drilled the players are.
it will also put more pressure on the QBs and defensive captains because there will be less time for consultation with coaches. So, Daniels better be ready. With his experience, I think it will generally help LSU.
