We won't be relying on 3 hitters to produce runs. Base running will be cleaner.

I don't know that Paul was better at anything.... Kind of why he retired.

Jay just had a lineup where every single player was hitting over .300

It’s time to get back to Gorilla Ball

Next year, if we have a pitcher with a 2.5 ERA and 100+ innings of work, then he should have a better record than 7-7 next year.

Hopefully!

Hopefully he or his pitching coach can teach some of our pitchers a 2nd pitch; Curve Ball, Slider, Change up, etc...something with movement/change of speed other than a fourseam fastball.

You might be disappointed here. He's very even-keeled. Not a real firey guy. But not a nervous, neurotic Debbie Downer like CPM. Cool customer in a good way. Focused, controlled, verbal. Positive but critiquing. Reminds me of Van Horn

I like his approach as far as his persona goes. I think it's plays well and is a good balance against the intangible LSU persona of being rowdy, wild, exciting and jubilant. The atmosphere in LSU Athletics can lead to a lack of discipline, self control, no accountability, too much partying, too much bravado and ego. That can lead to laziness and lack of focus. I think he will have a moderating effect on that and provide balance.

I think we'll see greater attention to detail. Situational awareness by the head coach, and his players, should be improved. No bunting to get to your .140 hitter, hopefully not trying to hit and run with a guy at the plate who is prone to the swing and miss. Knowing the right times to gamble based on the situation and who's on the mound. All the little things that it seems like we've just been "wingin'" over the years, should be greatly tightened.

And he can teach hitting, and isn't a "just swing for the fences" guy. He teaches an actual approach and his teams have shown the results.

We need to hit a home run with our new pitching coach. If we do that, we'll be set.

1) this is the rant where patience is checked at the door.

2) this is the rant, do you want everyone to just not talk baseball until we see the product on the field?

3) THIS IS THE RANT!

I think this is bigger than people realize. As a head coach, recruiter and a hitting coach he's phenomenal. But he really needs someone to pick him up on the pitchers. Without that, I think he will be average to above-average. If they get it right with the pitchers then you're talkin about a home run hire that's going to make a lot of appearances.

In the three years he was mediocre in the middle of his stint at Arizona, the team era was not very good at all

Yeah, there's no question the pitching was missing there. I think he'll get better talent here on the mound, which will immediately help him. But if we're going to get to where we want to go, he definitely can't afford to fart around with the pitching coach hire.

He will put a coach on third base coach who knows his job is not to see how many guys he can get thrown out at the plate.

"In addition to his reputation for developing hitters, Johnson is also considered one of the top recruiters in college baseball. Both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball ranked Johnson's 2020 signing class No. 4 in the country – the highest ranking for a program west of the Mississippi River. "
