Orgeron wasn't great but he was an ok coach when he was all in like he was his first few years. Once he stopped caring he crashed hard like we all knew he would when he was hired

I agree with you here. The first few years, he actually seemed to care. He had better assistants that he inherited when Miles was fired.
We get to 2019 and he claimed all the success, which isn't all him. We're talking Aranda, Ensminger, Burrow, Bill Busch.
He was successful in 2019 because he stayed out of the way.
The following years, without those assistants that I just mentioned, the results speak for themselves.
I don't wish any ill on the guy but the way he departed LSU just stinks. Take the money and run. So much for the "dream job."

I agree with this too.

That’s 3/4 coordinators and almost every starter. It’s actually impressive they replaced all that and won 5 SEC games.

Impressive? Impressive would be to sustain a program. Not be apathetic about the job he was hired to do.
I'm not saying he wasn't a good recruiter. Where were the ones to fill those positions you just mentioned. After two years.
He inherited Aranda,Ensminger, he got Brady, he discovered Burrow because of Bill Busch.
I'll give him credit for getting Burrow here but let's not pretend he was some coach that knew what he was doing. 2020 and 2021 shows he didn't or just didn't care.

That he inherited.
How were his coordinator hires after the ones that were on staff when he was named HC left?
Strange how you dodged his last two seasons.

If I recall, Humphries was Tommy Hodson's backup and he was not great. I might be wrong about Hodson, but the dude was not some star in waiting.

Screw Miles and Dale Brown.
its an unpopular take here. This board loves to suck off Daddy Dale, but I must concur.

What are you guys talking about? Stan Humphries never played for LSU, he went to Northeast (ULM). Mickey Guidry was Tommy Hodson’s backup.

At the time 1-AA NLU was QBU. Bubby Brister, Stan Humphries, and Doug Pedersen. Moved to 1-A and been losing ever since.

Humphries signed with LSU and was on campus, didn’t have the chest and had the reputation of being a head case

That's correct. And Stan was an elite college QB and played & started some games in the NFL. Not a head case, more like a party animal who had no interest in going to classes. Pistol Pete was also a legendary party animal at LSU, but at least he did show up to most of his classes.

Nope....
He had OBJ, Jarvis, Russel Shepherd, James Wright, Lafell, and Reuben Randle on the sidelines that miserable January night in 2012...
why didn't he put 4 wide outs in with Mettenberger in the shotgun in the 2d half....what did he have to lose...
rather than standing on the sideline like a stunned mullet.

His time management skills sucked the fun out of LSU football for me.
That, the toss dive, and the constant incomplete passes on second and long.

Not just that he lost to Alabama. It was the way he lost...like they didn't want to be there. Such a humiliating end to one of the top 5 seasons in LSU history.

No, he won NC with Saban recruits.

Best coach in Tiger history? How old are you? Every heard of Nick Saban and Charlie McClendon?
