I've also heard he's still pretty bitter, so I'm not sure if he'd even come
He talked a bunch of shite about LSU's "win at all cost mentality" or some such bullshite after he got fired. frick that guy and his gay love for Lou Tepper.

20th anniversary of the 97 Florida win or something would be a nice gesture.
What about the week before- a one point win over vandy?
Or the next week- getting embarrassed at home to ole miss?

he began the process of locking down the state, Saban doesn't have the immediate success he did without many of DiNardo's players. He couldn't coach the guys for shite, but he did help lay the foundation so Saban could hit the ground running.

Pretty much all of them because eventually, most coaches get fired for poor performance. It always ends badly, or else it wouldn't end.
But it was 20 years ago. He pulled LSU out of the worst period in its history by a rather wide margin, brought back some important traditions like the H-style goalposts and white jerseys, and started to get major Louisiana recruits to stay in state. The 2001 SEC Champs were anchored by a lot of Dinardo recruits.
He was a lousy game coach, and he was way too loyal to his assistants, but Dinardo made LSU relevant again. He certainly deserved to get fired, and he was never going to get over the hump, but he also took a team coming off six losing seasons and got them to 10 wins in just two seasons.
If you can't see what Dinardo did for LSU's program, you wither have no memory of the Hallman Era or you are just a Saban fan, not an LSU fan. He actually improved the team's winning percentage by a great margin than Saban did...
Curley: 364
Dinardo: 570 (+214)
Saban: 750 (+180)
Saban's clearly the better coach (duh), but Dinardo pulled the program out of the abyss. Its not too much to honor the anniversary of the Bring Back the Magic Game, probably the single most important game in LSU's modern era.

denardol should be honored it was his players that brought sabin to the sucess that he enjoys today and lsus 2003 bcs title !

Keep waiting for "all of them" to honor their formerly fired coaches. I remember much farther back than Hallman and was excited to get into the Independence Bowl but DiNardo didn't bring back the magic anymore than Clinton brought the 90s economy he was credited for.

I'm more interested in will there be a 10 year reunion kinda thing for the 2003 champs and will you know who be invited?

Archer has been back at least twice now to receive accolades (I think on the 20th anniversaries of the 1986 and '88 SEC championships, if I recall correctly). DiNardo coached the 1996 and '97 teams to SEC West co-championships and also brought home some bowl game trophies, so perhaps those teams will also be honored on their 20th anniversaries.

DiNardo was able to bring in K. Faulk when all other LA athletes were going to Florida schools. That alone deserves recognition.

Couldn't agree more.

you guys are retarded if you think we should be honoring a coach that went 4-7 and 3-8 in his last 2 seasons out of 5 and never won a championship of any kind.
You're even more retarded if you think we should honor a lone victory over Florida. While it was a great night and full of memories, we're past that day in age. There's a reason we don't storm the field anymore, and it's has nothing to do with Dinardo.
We honor championships and champions at LSU, this isn't Ole Miss.

It was a mixed bag with DiNardeaux that ended badly last 2 years because of bad assistant coach hires. But you can not deny their we're tremendous milestones during his tenure (upsetting FL, beating Saban and Mich St in a Bowl, Auburn win, etc) that brought back the magic. Plus Saban inherited much better talent to work with than DiNardeaux inherited from Hallman. Looking back, I would indeed honor him for the ground work he laid for what is the greatness of the program today.

He tremendously upgraded the facilities, brought the white jerseys at home back, started the recruiting bash and the Gridiron Club.
And he really had to fight the existing establishment to upgrade those facilities as the culture at that time was to spend absolutely no more than necessary.
He definitely made it impossible for us to keep him the way it ended. But I'd have no problem with honoring him at one point in the future.
As was said earlier though, he might be reluctant. He could really hold on to a grudge as I recall.

Most colleges don't honor a former coach who was fired for not being a good enough coach.

Right after Curley

I wouldnt mind it. Dinardeaux deserves some credit for what he did at LSU-which is basically showing what LSU COULD be. He started the trend of locking down the in state talent, increased fan interest, and showed LSU's potential. Not to mention left Saban with some pretty good talent. Its been well documented that Saban knew LSU was a "sleeping giant" when he took the job.

I could see something like maybe inviting him in 2017 in conjunction with honoring the 20th anniversary of beating Florida. Didn't we honor the '82 Orange Bowl team and invite Stovall?
Doesn't have to be just Gerry.
