And then if we hold the ball for the entire shot clock and don’t score on last second bad looking shot and AU comes back the same people will be bitching that Will Wade played like a pussy and should have let the athletes make plays. I agree there is no excuse to giving up that lead but quit bitching and go back to your shitty jobs Monday morning and let WW coach.

It all goes back to depth. We are exhausted late in games. Once days fouled out we only had 6 bodies that Will trusts at that point of games. I'll say it again, we need Manning back. 8 deep is a huge difference from 7. And he can defend all 5 positions pretty well if needed

[quote]Auburn ties game with :19 seconds left
Mays misses 3 OT

The question should be, why in the hell with 19 seconds left in regulation did Mays not even attempt to drive the ball to the goal. It's as though he had his mind made up to shoot a 3 pointer, he already knew, worse case is overtime. He shouldn't have to be COACHED to make a high percentage play when the game is in the balance.

It is hard to win tough, close games against good teams when your players have to play so many minutes because we are short of players you can count on. And Darius with foul problems again really hurt.

While I tend to agree with your statement, 20 seconds left, ball in the hands of your SENIOR leader, a highly intelligent young man, yet in this moment he chose to make the most unintelligent play by attempting a 3 point shot instead of taking the ball to the goal.

It’s amazing how bad college coaches are at clock management. That’s the biggest difference between them and the NBA guys and it’s a Grand Canyon size gap.

Late in the game Emmitt Williams made a desperate 3 point shot then on the next possession down court figures hey why not and chunks another 3 with roughly 15-20 seconds still on the shot clock.. AU rebounded and turned it into 3 points ...THIS is not playing smart basketball at all ...they stated they practice 6 minute left on the clock drills in practice...they should apply it to games also...

That was a terrible shot, but it was early in the second half and not in the last six minutes.

We had four possessions in the last minute
Mays made 3 FTs
Smart missed front end of 1-1
Mays lost the ball
Mays missed a long 3

One good possession out of four, that’s a losing formula.

True, but continuing to let them drain 3 after 3 with poor defense is also a big recipe for blowing a W. It was a bad combo when you combine both of them. But I do believe that if LSU would have started putting them at the line instead of letting them get 3 points per possession, they would be 9-1 in the SEC right now.

Their last four possessions were two made threes and a miss and a made layup to tie us.

Now we could have lengthened the game by fouling them but we would have had to make our free throws and not turn the ball over. That was something we didn’t do when we had the chance.

We have lost 5 games this year where we had >5 point lead or so in under 2 minutes. At some point you’ve gotta learn from the mistakes or change the way you approach those games. I understand we have also had many other close games we won in the clutch, but it’s maddening. Basically .500 ball when we don’t put teams away when we have the chance early

I think we need to revisit the way we close out halves.

The first half and the second half conclusions on O were reminders how we’ve finished much of the season. Mays one on one and he winds up with a long jumper. That hasn’t worked very often.

I’d like to see us run the O with the goal to create a mismatch and try and score late in the possession.

Situational Awareness is not that hard to learn. Plenty of times this year you’d think we were down 8 not up 8 in the last two minutes.its fukin maddening.

We also shot some really dumb 3s late in regulation.

With under 4 minutes left and up by 7, we had 3 consecutive 3 attempts on consecutive possessions. Those were also 10 second off the shot clock.
We just need to get it in our head that's not our game. Sure we have to take a few here and there, but in this situation on the road against a team that can shoot the 3 very well, that was just stupid. Aub knew it it's like we opened the door and said come on in and kick our arse.

Which is why I was puzzled that taylor kept going under the screens instead of over to stay in front of the shooters. That is a simple fix.

We made 80% of our free throws compared to their 65%. I'd take that chance every opportunity over what transpired.
