Why was Jefferson used as the punt returner one time?

Just curious if anyone noticed that. I believe it was just one time , I might be wrong though.

Stingley was shutting down one side of the field so they didn't want to gamble on an injury?

That's the only thing I can think of.

Wasn't it late in the game?

I think either Scone or Jordy said JJ might have gotten a little dinged on the third down play

Really wish this was the case all season.

It could also be possible that JJ just wanted to field a punt once and O decided to give him his wish.

Been asked several times. My first thought was the Stingley was gassed.

The two punt returns before that Stingley looked wild. He didn’t almost fumble or muff or anything. He just looked a little amped. When I saw Justin in for the next one I assumed we were just being cautious.

When Higgins had to go to the locker room Stingley covered him all the way there and back. In the meantime they needed somebody else to field the punt.

Guessing either stingley was gassed/cramping or they trust Jefferson’s hands better and didn’t want to risk a fumble at that point in the game.

Just a guess but I think they just wanted a fair catch and Jefferson is more sure handed.

This comment deserves a place in The Rant's Hall of Fame. This is gold.

I think Stingley came out of the game for a few plays preceding the punt. He may have picked up a knock and was on the sidelines getting medical attention.

He had just covered a deep throw on 3rd down that was incomplete. He needed to get a blow rather than field a punt. Nothing more than that.

Maybe they knew it would be his last game and thought they would give him one?

Iirc, Flott made the breakup the play before the punt.
