I never really thought the guy was all that but if you say that about a coach that's still on staff around here you get roasted.

It could be for anything from doctoring false expense reports to dropping the ball as a recruiting coordinator. Who knows?

I'm betting we will never find out the scoop because I don't think Coach O wants to harm his career.

The end of the season and days after signing day are the times when assistant coaches are most at risk if being removed. Coach O is doing the same things some other schools are doing, cleaning up a few loose ends and trying to improve his staff. It happens. Part of the business

Some of it had to do with his ability to develop his receivers.

My theory, based on mostly conjecture, is that Canada and Craig may not have worked out. Remember that Craig basically made a lateral move to LSU from his Alma Mater, Auburn.

The rumor at the time was conflict between Craig and the playcaller at Auburn. Craig has designs on being an offensive coordinator, which is fine, but you cannot be undermining and second guessing your coordinator as was being reported when he left Auburn.

In fairness to Craig, that was a rumor, but it seems likely Craig was unhappy with someone at Auburn to leave a place where he played and was so popular. And its natural and healthy for your new coordinator to have guys who are fully on board with his philosophy.

I am not saying Craig was not, just pointing out that maybe for whatever reason he was not looking like a fit with Canada.

As for the players reacting to him leaving, its hard to get to wound up about that. I imagine Craig was close with some of his players and they were sorry and hurt to see him go. That's a pretty human reaction. We had many players sad to see Miles go.

It is a business. I was not a big fan of hiring Orgeron, but now that he is the coach I want him to succeed and think he should hire the guys that create the chemistry he wants for the team. I say let him build his staff and let them be judged by their results.

I'm surprised I haven't seen speculation on recruiting violations given the timing of it.

Very rarely are coaches straight up fired. Craig did something.

Juluke just wasn't good and was demoted. Craig was kicked to the curb, with no effort to even hide it.

I can't see dameyune being fired for one subpar recruiting class. Something more is going on here

The Advocate says it happened last year:

quote:

The timing is nothing new in college football. Staff shakeups often happen after signing day, as head coaches make their moves only after signing highly touted prospects to binding national letters of intent.

Last year, for instance, Miles fired receivers coach Tony Ball the weekend after signing day. Craig's replacement will be LSU's fourth receivers coach in four years.

Up till signing day, the #1 JC WR was in the barn & all of a sudden academically ineligible. Coach either had no clue or did not reveal the situation. Either way, had to go.

No info, but it stands to reason that the new OC is doing his thing with a staff that reports to him. The good news is that the head coach is giving his OC the ability to run the offense.

Just to summarize it.. last thursday devanta smith was a tiger.. a day later bama loses their wr coach. A position that has not been filled, and two days later a wr flips from lsu lean back to bama, with no wr coach. A guy craig was recruiting. Day after he could have just walked or found another job lsu pays twice as much to fire him and make him look bad. Just doesnt add up

Could also be our WRs underperforming? Way too many drops this year. I was never impressed with his actual coaching ability but it was understood Craig was mainly here for his recruiting, but that seemed to slip this year too.

My guess is he was on the way out regardless but o waited until after signing day to not disrupt recruiting.
