That's exactly what I thought. Elite setup man to elite closer. It kind of reminded me of previous teams.

I thnk the day off helps too. Let Evans close out your important games if he needs to. Don't mess around.

And he was. Great move by Coach.

Dealing in the 8th and we go to a true freshman for his first appearance in Omaha

I tend to agree that I would have left Shores stay in.

Having said that, you just answered your own question. Evans is a guy that's going to need to pitch big innings in the CWS. What's a better spot for him to come in.

And, I assume you'd bring him in if Shores walked a couple. You going to complain about bringing in that true freshman for his first appearance with 2 on in the bottom of the 9th?

Agree. Even if it's not what I would do I still recognize he has his reasons and knows what he is doing. I'm not questioning it. I would have kept Shores in, but I'm glad LSU was in position to close it out with their closer. He didn't mess around. He has a day off now and nobody is burned. Winning these first games are important.

It’s *almost* like Jay Johnson has a plan and knows how to execute it.

Reality is shores got bottom of lineup where 100 intimidates. Evans got top where you have to be a good pitcher to get them out.

Two best relief arms. Fine by me.

Normally I'd say thr same but Shores was dealing...and you didn't know what you were for sure gonna get with a TF.

Glad it worked out

Lot of good points and responses already…but let me add…Evans getting his feet wet in this CWS is great for this team. He’ll step onto that mound experienced and ready to fight whether it’s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, wtfeverday

Seems like it worked out, but hey what do I know? I wish we had a better coach like you.

Because we are going to need that true freshman in Omaha and now he won’t be as nervous his 2nd appearance in Omaha

Shores faced the bottom of their lineup. Their leadoff hitter lead off the 9th. Also don't forget Little Rock Shores came in mid inning and dealt and then next inning was when he walked the bases loaded. You also want to keep Shores available for this role again if you need him next game when you might need him earlier than the 8th and go longer. Was a good call by Jay and worked out perfectly.

Why are people acting like it’s weird. Evans is the best option to close a game as proven all year

I hate agreeing with you, ya muthafricka you.

But this is exactly right.
