Why not let the players and their parents/family make the call?

This is a no brainer for me and it stops the argument that the universities are just greedy - we already know they are. We all know the players and their families already have this option. It's a personal and probably "business" decision as they say. Put up or shut up. Take the blame away from the universities as much as possible. We all know they could care less about the safety of the players where money is concerned. I'm sure the coaches are in the same boat as the university. That's my opinion. What's the RANT think?

And what makes you think the players and their parents aren't individually making that call for themselves already?

They don't want to give players more power. They're already shitting themselves from player finally realizing they have some. The players would demand some real monetary compensation for their "yes" vote.

As long as they are unified in their desire to play. Sure, why not.

You guys are in favor of letting the players have zero power yet now they might cancel something now you guys want them to have all the power?

A dangerous precedent for sure.

So what about when they choose not to play? Oh right, that’s not an option.

I’ve been wanting the entire country to let adult be adults and make their own decisions since May. If you are scared stay home and let the rest of us live our life taking whatever risks we want to take like we did before COVID.

If a player wants to play and a coach wants to coach then they should be allowed to do so. The ones that don’t no hard feelings and I understand why you are making that decision.

The same players who routinely hide injuries so they don't lose their spot? How many of these players do you expect will self-report symptoms at the first sniffle?

It's only an option on paper. A starter who sits out this season will be welcomed back next year, sure, but they'll still have to compete with their replacement who didn't sit out for a year along with an incoming class to get their spot back. Not to mention an extra year waiting for their shot at the next level.

Because players and families don’t run the conference. It’s like asking the employees to make a major decision instead of the boss.

Because there is an agenda.

I sort of think the issue is just more that they have to keep pretending that colleges aren’t just about football, and if they aren’t allowing classes in person how can they allow football.

You’re on to it, Big Scrub. If they treat the athletes different than normal students in a significant way (ie campus bubble without students), they would be inherently admitting that these FB players are de facto employees. That opens up a whole new can of worms that they would rather not.

Yeah, that’s worked well for the general public- every individual making their own call. It’s why the virus is raging.

I think it's a bigger factor than people are giving it credit for.
