I said the same thing. That’s how I was coached if under a second is left you aim for the rim to make a crazy bounce. The only issue is sometimes a foul can be called if you have people jumping for ball but it’s best to clear the lane.

Wnich is what I said, but what if there is a foul on the play after the rebound and pass down court. One would hope that the defense would stay away from a foul, but there is still a risk someone makes a mistake. A lot can go wrong, even in .6 seconds.

Me and a couple friends were watching and that's what we were saying, miss the second on purpose and they have to make an 80+ foot shot to win. The commentators said the officials were setting the clock to 1.4 but they never did, I don't think they catch the rebound and heave a long shot in .6 seconds.

Missing the FT was the correct decision. They either have a full court shot or they call timeout and have .3 seconds which is impossible to get a shot off.

In that situation you should miss the FT 10/10. Even with a timeout they have to POSSESS the ball first to call it. Even if they get the fastest timeout in history, there would be maybe 0.2-0.3 left on the clock which is enough only for a tip shot I believe and nothing more. Not the grab and shoot like Grant Williams did after the made FT.
It was a wrong decision but ended up not mattering.
Now if there was like 1.6 seconds left, then yeah, make the FT if they have a TO still.

Get a shite foul call and they’re shooting free throws to win the game.
Also, you get a guy trying to miss, and he doesn’t hit the rim, they’re now in the same situation had you made it, but they’re throwing it in from out of bounds with a chance to win.
