re: Why not cap the amount an athlete can receive for their "likeness"

capping wages? sounds like some commie shite to me
The NBA and NFL have caps - to ensure that teams with more resources don't just outspend smaller market teams to get the best players. If that happens, the league isn't as competitive, interest from fans will decline, and the league will suffer.
Now out in the real world, I agree, no caps and let competition occur.
But sports leagues are a different beast.

Very odd OP.
why would anyone want to cap these revenues?
why would anyone want to cap these revenues?

You do realize that the NFL and NBA have salary caps for a reason, right.

The NFL has no cap on what a player can get for his likeness.

You know the boosters will find a way to pay players for their "likeness" and if there's no system in place (I'm not saying a hard cap is the right answer), it'll be a feeding frenzy for the top players with cash flying everywhere.
I don't think college football wants that.

Finally, your heartache about the "bloodsuckers from the NCAA that enjoy the profits" is way off base. The revenue doesn't go to this ambiguous NCAA company. The revenue goes to the LSU's of the world. You realize that, right? And, the revenue is pretty much completely put back into other athletic programs at these universities. That's how stadiums are paid for, womens sports and other non revenue athletics are funded, etc. And, with very few exceptions, universities take a loss when it comes to athletics. In other words, most of the time, there is no profit.
I think many people think there are a bunch of fat cats at the NCAA getting rich, buying mansions and yachts. That's not the way it works. The NCAA money gets distributed back to the universities. LINK

but feel like this will really peel back the curtain on shady recruiting and create a lot of controversy between athletes in profit generating teams vs athletes on teams operating at a loss.
I'm not sure I see the problem. If a car dealer in Monroe wants to pay their QB $20k for a car ad and some Twitter shout outs but LA Monroe is losing money and their football team is winless, $20k is still the market value of that player. And the money isn't coming from the tax payers, the athletic department or the school.

Because this is America, and we live in a free market society. Life isn't fair. Some people will make millions a year, the rest of us will just write comments on Tiger Droppings.

This makes no sense at all. Is there a cap on how much money TAF can bring in?
Let the earners earn. Screw the NCAA and their BS sharecropper model.

Wait a minute. Dont these football players that are on scholarships get a free education? If they succeed in getting agents, while in college and this results in receiving endorsements, then they need to pay to play. I've never like professional sports that much because they compete from their back pockets. In college it's always been from the heart, school, team, and state you lived in. I guess nothing last forever.

I'm more concerned about the unintended consequences of paying for "likeness"
the things that no one is thinking about right now...

I also feel like if this is something that’s inevitable, then players shouldn’t be able to benefit until after they are enrolled in college. It can’t be that the player goes to the highest bidder. I know a lot of that currently goes on but it will be bad for college football recruiting if it’s allowed before enrollment and during recruiting.

Coondaddy, I think you misunderstand.
The right to sell one's likeness or goodwill isn't the same as selling one's services.
While there is a lot of confusion in this thread, the current debate is over whether a kid can sell his face or his endorsement or his autograph to the public or to firms that sell products or services.
Right now, the kid can not do this and remain an amateur. He has to enter into a modified indenture of servitude with a college for his football services and gets free tuition etc, in exchange.
