The annual Javi Sanchez Baton Rouge Regional BBQ always starts at 7 p.m. on opening night. Duh.

Actually it was held yesterday.
To the OP: Better chance that weather would push the 2nd game to an extremely late start or even the next day. Taking game 1 might not be as good for the fans, but it's a better bet for the team!

Plus, they know that the Tiger fans will show up for the early game and possibly stay for the late game too. If LSU were playing late, there would be no one at the early game.
Don't forget that LSU doesn't want to miss out on those concession sales.

Hanagriff said earlier it was because that's the time LSU submitted in its paperwork for the Reigonal bid and the NCAA gave them what they wanted.

Cause we do what we want. This is when we prefer to play.

It's been that way since Skip was coaching.

It goes back to Skip not wanting to play the night game on Friday then have to come back at noon on Saturday for the winners bracket game.
When they changed the regional schedule in 2005 it wasn't as much of a factor anymore since they moved the winners bracket game on Saturday to 7 pm. But LSU stuck with playing during the day.
So it's really basically just a tradition now. Or what LSU's always done.

I like it. Gets us started, and we get to sit back and watch the 2 vs 3 seeds play without worrying about our game being about to start.
Spaces out the regional a little more. Plenty of reasons why it's smart. I'll be there regardless of what time they throw the first pitch.

Most of Bertman's career was w/the old 6 team regionals befofe the super regionals were introduced. 3 games the 1st day , & I think starting times were about 1, 5 and 9pm @ most sites. Most all host schools that had the lights, started the late slot. Texas was the only host school to take the 5pm slot. Good idea for fans & team. I think LSU played a game @ midnight due to weather/extra innings of earlier game. Not only was the team worn out the next day , we lost our home field advantage because most of our fans left. lol During the 90's other host teams around the country had games delayed til the next day, turning their advantage to a great disadvantage!
I think the NCAA has a rule about starting games before midnight. Most home teams started playing during the day. This carried over when we went to the 4 team regional/super format in , I believe it was 1999!
I repeat: The change was made by Bertman because it was smart, and it made the teams seeded below us deal w/the weather (exacerbated by extra inning games}!!

Mainieri said he likes knowing precisely when his game starts. He doesn't want to wait around for weather or for another game to finish. Sees it as an advantage. Said that in interviews last year.

honestly its because the NCAA hates SLU. They have screwed us the last few post seasons leaving us out when our resume was better than half the field. This year they can't leave us out so they send us to a very respectable LSU squad. While confident in the Roomies ability to win in the Box they put it early as to limit the amount of fans that can come in from Hammond. It will still be a ton but not everyone can get off of work and we all know LSU fans don't have that problem. Saturday and Sunday though will be packed with SLU fans

It really is criminal how LSU is fricking over Lion Nation.
