Just think about the feedback Kelly would have received if they had missed the field goal after that strategy !

Yeah that is thanks to Ark trying to stop Diggs on 1st and 2nd down. If Ark lets Diggs score, they would have had about 1:45 with a chance to win the game with a TD and 2pt. If LSU would’ve just kneeled three times, the only chance to win would be a blocked 23yd FG and return it for a TD. Their only chance to tie would be a missed or blocked 23yd FG.

Would scenario would you rather have?

all I can think is that he originally wanted to kick on 3rd down and changed his mind and decided to run a play instead

I wanted us to save the last time out and run one more running play for the end zone. If we have to kick off, it seems preferable to be up by 7.

The guy in the row behind me disagreed and really liked the overthrow to stop the clock before the field goal. He said it wasn’t worth it to risk a fumble or an injury.

Reasonable people can disagree here. But with Arky having wasted its timeouts (mostly due to stadium noise), the odds of a one play 75 yard td we’re exceptionally low.

Lower than not being able to have a chance to run a play? We gave them a play when we didn’t have to.

You mean the win.

So, there was four seconds left on the clock. Big freaking deal. What exactly did Arkansas accomplish with those four seconds?

the fact that there was still time left on the clock at all after the field goal is pretty embarrassing for a D1 coach

He should be getting hammered from the media on game management at end of game.

There must be 1,000 decisions Coach has to make before and during a game. This decision about the field goal is just one of them. Of course some of these decisions will be wrong in retrospect. It's too complicated to be otherwise.

Tiger Phil, you are ONE BILLION PERCENT CORRECT. However, if he manages the clock right, and has time expire as the fg sails through the uprights, we win 1000 times out of 1000.

The bottom line is we won. But as a HC, every decision you make should MAXIMIZE the chances of your team winning the game. No matter how little it mattered, BK didn't do that in that situation, and I love BK as our coach and think he will win minimum 2 natties if he stays here 10+ years.

By the way, my son and I were screaming at the TV how he should handle it in REAL TIME. This is no second guess. I've always said HCs need a guy in the booth whose ONLY JOB is to manage the clock. Years ago in Kentucky, Guy Morriss didn't manage the clock correctly in a similar situation. He experienced first hand that 1 out of 1000 you speak of.

Yes. 100% this and nothing else is acceptable ! How is it ok that time was left for them to even take a shot?

Simple. We lived through the Les Miles era.

Yeah, we definitely haven't seen any of these things under Kelly.

It seemed like he was very worried about these possibilities and was trying to score a touchdown.

As bad as it was, Pittman was dumber. If the roles were reversed and we had not let Arkansas score, I would be apoplectic. The second they made the decision to not let us score, their win probability went to under 2%, or whatever our FG percentage is on kicks under 25 yards. And even if we miss, their best hope was for overtime.

Just an inexcusable strategy by Pittman. Kelly's decision to try to try to score was pretty bad as well.
