re: Why is Steele getting a pass?

My biggest disappointment sure wasn't the Defence! Once we got our Pass D figured out some it looks better to me. Holding them to the field goal after that PI was great. He gets a pass because the others coaches Stink. OC and ST.

You people bitch about everything.

We have no depth in the front 7. So after the offense had sputtered all game, there wasn't much left in those guys tanks.

For all of the ineptitude of the offense, the defense lost that game. That last drive was emblematic of their struggles all game. The defense gets a stop there, and the offense has a chance to make it a one score game. The offense was finally moving the ball through the air at that point. We had taken some of the momentum. Then, the defense goes out and can't stop the running game at all, just completely ineffective. That's unacceptable.

To be fair to Steele this is the least talented defense in terms of depth since miles has been here.
LMFAO and Valentine were supposed to be studs and neither played a down. Gilmore and Herron have been serviceable but nowhere near what people thought they would be. The defensive end position is super talented but also young and undersized.
Add all that to the fact Rashard Robinson was kicked off the team, Clifton Garrett was a bust and Mills has been hurt all year has put the defense in a pretty sizeable hole. There is a reason 3/4 of the recruiting class is defensive players. It needs to be restocked and the staff is doing a hell of a job doing so.
So blaming Steele is nothing but ignoring the actual problems and looking for an easy fix opposed to seeing the actual problem.

Problem was caused by recruiting misses and attrition. Solution is to bring in incredible haul of absolute studs on D with the offer of early playing time. So far solution is on its way to being enacted. See ya in Feb for confirmation:).

I agree to a point. This defensive line has no depth, and up to this point, we have gotten more out of them than anyone had any reason to expect. It is clear they were gassed on that last drive, which makes sense because the d-line is very thin. However, that does not excuse the linebackers for being consistently out of position and utilizing poor tackling technique. That's not a talent issue, that's s scheme and discipline issue.

This staff is built solely to recruit and the rant still defends them by saying "well but bama has better players!
and apparently they only recruit offensive talent...chavis never put any guys in the nfl

We had the ball on offense for almost 40 of the 60 minutes in 2014

Because our defense got off the field, not because our offense was sustaining drives. This stat proves my point.
In four pages, I've seen all the excuses I expected to see. By the way, Chavis dealt with these same problems. TOP is just as much on the Defense (like the 9 MINUTE DRIVE that ended the game). Chavis' defense gives up a drive at the end of the game, it's his terrible scheme. Steele gives up a drive at the end of the game, its because they were "gassed." The excuses are laughable.
For all those chiming in with "wait until he get his players" did you see what happened at Clemson when he got "his players." His defense went from mediocrity to the laughing stock of college football. I'll take Chavis' D the second half of last season over the garbage we are putting on the field right now.
I'm in no way excusing the piss poor offensive game plan and execution, but I am tired of Steele getting a pass. His D lacks fundamentals and even where we have talent and depth (in the secondary) we are not very good. But, keep making excuses, I'm sure Miles is doing the same. This may ultimately become his Lou Tepper, because we know he's not going to adjust the offense.

Well when your tackling technique gives out, that IS an indicator of exhaustion. Not talent, which I feel you'd agree with. That exhaustion is a big thanks, again, to no offensive drives.

Because Chavis left the cupboard bare as far as our front seven is concerned. No quality depth means tired players who miss tackles late in the game. Hard to blame a DC who is handcuffed by the recruiting failures of the previous DC. When Steele and Orgeron get their own recruits in, then we can start judging Steele as DC.
When we had to start a true freshman DT last year and a true freshman DE this year, I think it is fair to blame Chavis/Brick for their lack of recruiting and its effect on this year's D.

If we win these next three games I would have to say he has done a decent job. This is just his first year.

Steele's not getting a pass, 1. he didn't miss out on recuiting Dline and LB's. 2. LSU has been great against the run all season, only miscommunications in passing game to point to. Give Steele pass for now, see if he gets the 5 stars we need.

Do you even football? Our offense had 54 rushing yards and completed 6 passes. It's a miracle we held Bama below 40.

Did you watch the game last year? Our offense wasn't any better and yet Chavis' D held Bama to 13 points in regulation.

I won't judge him in his first year. Chavis is not doing much his first year in Aggieland either.
Posted on 11/12/15 at 9:41 pm to ellessuuuu
Lsu also held on to the ball damn near all game last year. And they never got put in a short field either.

We should have gotten the coach UF fired last year to be our DC.
