In 2014 Chavis' D kept our inept offense in this game. Granted it also gave up the late drive and OT loss.

Steele's defense looked bad against the run. I get it TOP was bad, but how many times did Chavis' D have to deal with that. A lot of attention given to our inept offense, which has been the norm in this game, but nobody is talking about how the D was gashed, especially on the last 9 minute drive.

LSU allowed Henry to get nearly 100 yards rushing in the first half alone. It had nothing to do with TOP. It's poorly coached and executed schemes. Again, hiring a guy your biggest competitor demoted and was fired from his next dc job after that to be your DC showed some of us all that needed to be known about the future of this team.

That last drive was so frustrating. We finally have a slight bit of hope and have them pinned deep. Then they proceed to kill the entire clock. Pretty disappointing.

I agree, the defense looked a hell of alot better last year. Talk about sacks all you want. This years defense has not held anyone to under 21 points all year.

We held Ole Miss to 7 points and A&M to 17 points last year. That sure as hell ain't happening this year!

It's his first year working with a depleted defensive roster. He gets a pass.

Because Chavis left the cupboard bare as far as our front seven is concerned. No quality depth means tired players who miss tackles late in the game. Hard to blame a DC who is handcuffed by the recruiting failures of the previous DC. When Steele and Orgeron get their own recruits in, then we can start judging Steele as DC.

Sometime things are a little more complicated than just the final score. Last year, we possessed the ball the nearly 40 minutes of the game during regulation. The gumps for only 20. the defense let us down.

This year, those numbers were reveresed. The gumps held the ball for 40 minutes and us for only 20. It's amazing the game wasn't a worse beat down than it was.

Our defense this year has been better than last year, no question.

Defending a short field due to abysmal special teams hasn't done Steele any favors

Tell me how Chavis' D did when we played Bama in 2013.

We had the ball on offense for almost 40 of the 60 minutes in 2014

We had it for 20 in 2015

If you're referring to the first half of last year, I agree. But through the second half of 2014, our defense was incredible. Definitely beats this year.

I too wonder why the defense is getting a pass for this game. They weren't bad, but they just weren't that good either. Alabama's offense is not that great. Coker is a shitty QB. I said before the game if we could get an interception or two from him, we would really be in a position to win the game, but nope. 0.

The only thing defensively we really did well this past game was sack Coker. But we still had several coverage busts. Alabama was 7-15 on third downs and had 440 yards of offense. Not great if you ask me.

Our D has just been very mediocre all season long.

Gave up 372 yards in 2013. We gave up 440 this year. And 2013 was also Chavis's worst year too.

The defense allowed just 13 pts in regulation. Hard to do much better than that.

In 2014, Chavis D got worked in the SEC and vs Notre Dame.
In 2014 Chavis D had less turnovers, sacks, and tfl..
In 2014 Chavis D also had more missed tackles.

We had the #1 total yard d in the sec last year, but it was heavily skewed from the OOC inferior competition numbers.
Games that don't matter.

Steele has this D doing what it needs to do to win games, aside from the Bama game in which the offense did not hold up their part. Steele holds opponents scoring down in the first half while we mount a lead.. and teams play desperate come back late and do get some yards in the air.. but they make the stops when needed.. especially at the end.. to win the game.. whereas Chavis was prone to giving up the run early and having to make adjustments.

Chavis when we had a great offense had one of the worst D's ever in 2013.. and being young is no excuse. This D currently is young.. so Steele doesn't get that excuse.. however we are extremely thin on the line.. and they have done wonders overcoming thus far.. but it finally caught up to LSU vs Alabama..

You want to talk about run D?

LSU heading into this game was #2 in the SEC in run D and somewhere around 5th in the ENTIRE ncaa in run d.

Steele actually has our guys in better position to stop the run and they were wrapping up better in tackling than a season prior.

Chavis has one of the worst run D's in the entire country and somewhere around last in the SEC in run d.

LSU is still currently 25th in overall D in the entire country. That is extremely serviceable.. especially given our offense.

The D made stops in the Alabama game, but we had far too many wasted offensive plays.

Everyone wants to just get rid of Steele, but I am actually encouraged given what they have had to work with and making the adjustment.. He's getting his guys in and the defensive recruiting is stepping up like never before.

I have no issues with Steele, and realize the more we are scoring now.. that yeah.. teams will put up more points.

The D did get gashed on the 9 minute drive, but again.. it was already a double possession lead and our thin dline had enough.. Alabama took over.. they were just more physical than us. Not much more you can do there..

We should have just went for the onside at that point. Alabama was not even in position to defend it.

Because he is not playing with his recruits. The defense was on the field 2 thirds of the game. With two small defensive ends and no depth at linebacker, they played well until exhaustion took over.

I really like what Steele has done thus far, especially stopping the run. There is nothing worse than being ran all over.. and for the entire season aside from that last drive.. we have stopped the run.

I agree with you, especially given he is bringing in far superior linebacker and defensive line recruiting.. and he and Coach O are willing to work together. It's a good relationship.

The D could have played better no doubt, but again after not doing much of offense.. it just caught up against a physical team.

We held Bama to just 10 points in the first half until they made that freaking kick. I still can't believe they made that kick. I felt like that was turning point (I know.. silly) but just seemed like it was there night.. they never make that kick. Then we come out the half and basically throw a pick 6 on a ball the tight end wasn't sure if it was intended for him or not.. so he didn't even make an attempt.

It won't be long before Steele D is fully set in place. It's inevitable. Steele will be the worst hire in the Miles era besides Peveto. It has already began.
Most of the people taking up for Steele are just protecting Miles. If you can't see it now, you are blind. Compare defensive stats from 2015 to 2014,2013,2012,2011, and 2010.

He has failed at DC at every team he has coached except Saban teams.

ETA: I have never been more confident in my life that Steele will be a terrible hire.
