Through the years Moran has given millions.
The exact amounts I do not know, although there have been reports of ten million for the athletic center.

i mean that's great. doesnt answer my question as to why tiger stadium isnt backlit like the rest of the sign.

It looks like the way it's constructed, only the Scotty Moran portion could be backlit.

here you go i found something. i hear ya on the back lit part. then again it could easily be frontlit if backlighting it isnt possible.

on second look the scotty moran part looks frontlit, not backlit.

Self made businessman from DeSoto Parish.
Oil and Gas and timber.
Put together property over the years the hard way and drilled lots of his own, shallow wells. Lives modestly.
Loves LSU and put up billboards etc on side of I-49 abt. LSU football.
My guess is he never asked for a thing in exchange for the cheese he gave, and that the recognition on the sign was LSU's idea.
The thanks he gets from some posters is to be called a "douche nozzle", without knowing more.
