Third time he’s done it and third time it’s cost us a game.

He didn’t have to. Whether Patrick or Pearson was on the base paths meant nothing. You needed defense to stay in the game because Cowan isn’t going strike dudes out. He’s going to pitch to contact.

honestly, as much as I shite on Reaves, the move should have been to bring Reaves in at 3rd and leave Dardar at 2nd

JJ is relying on his notes and technology crap, not his gut, to make moves! Pathetic!

Clauss did have coke-a-cola look in his eyes.

A little more Christmas Snow Mr. Clauss?

I'm just joking. Actually I feel for the kid a little bit.

But I really feel bad for Cowan.

There are times when you have to do things as a coach that you may not want to. I am sure he would have preferred a couple of guys who weren't available before
Clauss. If you noticed they pinch hit for him leading off the 9th.

quote:

He has consistently put guys out there that are not ready because he thinks they can play in this environment when they can’t

quote:

Fact of the matter is that we don’t have defensive replacements on the infield this year. We missed on the portal, and you just have to live with that. Quit trying out true freshman who aren’t ready for the moment.

I hate losing as much as the next fan. I am sure the young men wearing purple and gold hate it worse. While that (bottom of the 8th) may have been the worst inning of defensive baseball I have seen from LSU in years, to say we shouldn’t play true freshmen in SEC play is beyond moronic. Serna and Braun wouldn't be playing this year, and Curiel last year. These guys have to gain experience somehow. Do you think you feel worse than Clauss, Dardar or Stanfield, who all had a hand in the 8th? Do you think you are a better coach or know this team better than Jay Johnson (you know the guy with 2 national championsh trophies in his office)? If so, may God have mercy on your soul, because no one else can help you...

Such a stupid, overused tactic. Youre fricking stupid subbing for different runners in too many situations, taking better players out of the game. Its moronic 99% of the time

Good coaches rarely sit on their hands; they try to manufacture runs when runs ain’t happening the old fashioned way. Unfortunately for Jay, it blew up in his face.
But we’ve seen plenty of times his moves pay off.
I think we have a pretty good handle now on what THIS team is going to be. Average to slightly above.
Now Jay and his staff have to find some way to create confidence in his hitters to take the pressure off the other phases of the game.

I have never seen one player cause so much damage to his own team in just one inning. My 84 year old grandpa is more athletic than Clauss. Let's hope Jay won't be pulling that bullshite move too much longer.

If Milam doesn’t pussyfoot down to first base on his miracle, pop-up, he’s at second and scores and it would’ve been a tie game.

I blame Milam.

You’re still in a tie ball game and you choose to bring in a true freshman defensive replacement for the 50th time this year and it bites you in the arse again. It’s time to realize your team isn’t that deep and you’ve got to stop making subs just to sub people out.

It’s a better time to realize you fricked up when you let Mikey Ryan go.

This is what doomed the game. Too many chess moves. Backups didn’t have it. Had to dance with the girl you brought to the prom.

I would forget about pinch runners till the 9th inning. And just no “defensive changes”, they havent worked all season. The subs are just too unreliable and cant handle the pressure. They may look like defensive stars im practice, but they dont in games

We compounded things by then putting someone that never plays in a position to fail.

Think about this: the guy was trying to field a bunt down the 3rd base line AND also attempting to turn a double play coming from behind 2nd base in the same inning. Try and hide someone all over the field and the baseball will find you.

At this stage of the season, I think we just become what we are, which is a team that’s not gonna play small ball, it’s just gonna hit around as they can. Play moderate defense when we have our four main infield guys in.

Would rather see us not pinch run from Pearson, which started the whole charade of moves.

Our situational baseball is we have one situation… A serviceable starting nine and a team that just goes up and swing away. When pitching is good, we have a great chance to win.

In hindsight, it's a frick up.

I get doing it, but I didn’t like it in real time. If it had been the 8th or the 9th and he was the tying run, absolutely. But we were still down by 1 I believe—I’d have felt the same way if we had already tied it up—and his spot in the lineup was likely to come back up in the 9th and needing a bomb. And he’s always capable of running into one and hitting it 420.

And I’ve been pretty critical of John’s ABs since his grand slam—I know he hit another 3-run piss missile about 110 off the bat since then, but he’s popped straight up to the heavens and struck out quite a few times with the opportunity to do damage.

Still, I didn’t like taking his bat out of the lineup with Ole Miss still having 9 outs to play with and Caraway being out. I didn’t think pinch running for him gave you enough of an advantage in that particular situation that was more important than the disadvantages of taking him out. Pinch running for him there was trying to tie the game. Ok, then what? It was still the top of the 7th.
