According to Verge, LSU is losing 25 to 30 million this year. No donor covered the buyout like everyone thought.

These are the dumbest comments I have seen on here.

Why we would donate money for a mistake we didn't make

If this were true you would think they would be going all in on basketball since it actually has the potential to make money

A good basketball program would do great things for the entire athletic department

Providence officially fires Kim English who had a conference winning percentage of 10 higher than McMahon.

Add Providence to the growing list of basketball programs that have more standards than LSU. That list is getting so long now.

Because LSU to be on the hook for nearly $70 mil for firing 2 coaches in the same year. This is not to figure out.

The low IQ will never accept this as an answer, nor will they ever put up any money to help the situation.

I really think you get it, and I agree completely.

If we were keeping this EPIC FAILURE, I honestly believe an announcement would be made he's coming back for a 5th year. It does McMahon no good to have him twist like this UNLESS: you have a deal with Wade already agreed to.

I know one thing for certain. I'm rooting with all I've got for NC states opponent in round one. We need the Wolfpack bounced ASAP.

Matter of fact, I live in VB, VA and if the Wolfpack are sent to Philly for round one, my son and I will be there decked out in LSU gear and pulling for whoever 's playing NC state.

That's the best he can do. He's a baseball broh that hates LSU basketball.

For me it’s Wade first. If not Wade, just bring McMania back and hope he succeeds next year. If not, it will be cheaper to fire him.

Marginally.

But the flipside that you, and apparently no one associated with LSU considers, is the increased lost opportunity costs. A guy you want this year may not be available next year. OR, that guy will be much more expensive.

Wade would have come to LSU last year. And it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper to make that happen than it will now. He's likely going to leverage this into a raise at NC State if LSU doesn't pounce. So the cost to get him next year will be even MORE..while the football expenses remain the same.

Or look at a guy like Bucky McMillian at A&M. He would have taken the LSU job last year if LSU had offered it to him. Now, he would be MUCH more expensive to poach...if he would even consider the LSU job. The most in-demand coaches in the marketplace are going to either sign bigger deals where they are or take a major-conf. job elsewhere.

Getting rid of MM is inevitable. Do it now so the program can move forward

I think it’s because he’s not getting fired, plain and simple. But that means another thing plain and simple and that is the LSU no longer cares about men’s basketball! If he isn’t fired then it screams LSU DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN about it’s only money making sport besides football! Ridiculously sad and frustrating.

I really don't think they're firing him. Nobody who can pony it up is willing to right now. I'd be more shocked he is fired than retained at this point.

The current administration has proven it can competently handle a coaching search in the midst of chaos, avoid leaks, and get its target.

The we're too poor to fire McMahon story almost feels like a narrative to provide cover to a potential target who needs 2 weeks to finish his season and reduce his buyout.

I'm still willing to give the benefit of the doubt to this admin.

The fact that no other name has leaked out as a candidate in this process and there have been no leaks regarding McMahon's status seems to feel a lot like the football search in that aspect.

I could be wrong and this could be a disaster, but based on performance in December, I'll buy in.

No, I think there really is donor fatigue. Look, in the last 5 years Woodward asked for a TON of money from the donors. He asked for a big amount to hire Mulkey in a sport that doesn't make any money. He asked for a lot of money to buyout O 1.5 years after giving him a ridiculous extension (when no one else was looking hire him). He then asked for a $100M commitment to hire Kelly. He then fired Wade and asked for money to hire a new BB coach. He then asked for a ton of money to fire Kelly less than 4 years into a 10 year contract. Then, the donors paid a ton of money to get Kiffin and Co.

However, in McMahon we are not talking about a HC who has been decent, but not quite good enough. We are talking about the worst coach in the league for 4 years. This isn't a "convenience" fire. It's a necessity if LSU wants ANY chance at success in its second most profitable sport.

I think just like football, there is only ONE name in consideration for people not named Verge. However, unlike football, LSU hasn't fired their HC. So I think there a very, VERY, real chance that if Wade is not the hire fans will be subject to watching this 4 year disaster continue.

Exactly! Do the Math People. $50+ mil for Kelly and you want to spend another $10+ mil to fire McNuggets? It aint happening. After Kelly none of the $$ people will pony up for that!
