The Zavion Thomas motion was key

Sloan needs to get on his shite with zavion Thomas. I'd be running all kind of misdirection with this dude.

I do like the motion into the backfield run with Thomas that they have run both games. Love the swing screen to Thomas. Cj daniels missed a block on one of them or it would've gone for a nice gain.

Hilton coming back is going to add an actual deep threat.

Campbell did enough.

He was more worried about him going inside so he overplayed it. That is why he was off balance. You want that end to go outside there.

Yall are to hard on Campbell. People on here act like he can't get beat.

On top of that Gilbert Edmunds is a good player. Lsu wanted him to.

Williams has been solid in those spots for most of his career. So he's not a bad option. Durham had become the focus of LSU's running attack, so SC likely figured if he was in LSU was not going to ask him to pass block. He was either getting the ball or going out for a pass. Williams still gives you the best opportunity to run or pass there because you trust him as a blocker.

The call was a good change of tendency that likely wouldn't have been there with Durham. SC knows LSU has struggled with short yardage. So on 3rd down, with LSU's "blocking" back in the game they aren't necessarily expecting LSU to run. If Durham were in they would have been keying on him.

signaling it's going to be a pass because Josh is in the game

This is precisely what was done

And we will have to continue to be creative inside the red zone, b/c our personnel with this staff has not shown even an average amount of success getting the ball into the end zone

I mean, we're running fade/jump ball routes to 5'7" receivers

100% not a whiff from Campbell. It was a kickout block. The end had outside leverage, and Will added to it. Step inside, push outside, hole was the biggest we've had in a while in the run game.

Sloan ran a play for his 2 captains to execute...and they did. I'm sure Josh tells Will to give him space and he will take care of the rest, and that's what happened.

Sloan actually made adjustments in the second half. he absolutely had Williams in to make it look like they were passing. That shows promise as far as his play calling skills. Same thing with the 3rd and 9 and called a run with Durham that turned into a 29 yd TD. He knew they would be coming in hard to pass rush and tricked them and me. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

I think he can play a key role in opening up lanes

Defenses respect his speed so much, he can open up gaps on fake jet sweeps, motion, etc.

Hell, LSU is running Percy Harvin type plays with him.

He was "the man" on that play.

LSU scored on the play even with Campbell whiffing on his 1v1 block

He can’t let the guy go inside. If he wants to try and run around Campbell have at it. He did enough to let his guy take himself out of the play.

Fundamentals of line play which people who coached or played line understand. It’s not always pretty and you don’t always look amazing, but that guy was aggressive to the outside. Will did enough and accomplished the goal.

Christ some of you are fricking stupid. How many big short yardage TDs and first downs has Williams had the last two seasons? The staff trust him to not make mistakes in clutch situations. Last 5 mins of a SEC road game is a lot to ask of a true freshman. Durham will get there, but he wasn’t even an early enrollee.

Wrong. His job was to seal the outside and he did exactly that. Williams could have walked through that hole, which we couldn’t say most of the rest of the game.

He did his job on the play- get the end outside. He never had a shot to make a play on Williams. But keep on bitching.

I do like that we’ve given him a couple of backfield touches. They have worked. I would love to see more jet sweeps with him and Anderson.

This game had two other perfect red zone plays. The RPO to Lacy fooled the D got him in single coverage. The PA pass to Taylor was even more wide open.

But we all saw the bad, as well. But the play calls weren’t the only issues. The two drives we didn’t get TDs on both featured plays that could have been, but weren’t executed. Nuss had Lacy open again, but they weren’t on the same page with the route option. That was an EASY TD and we only ended up with 3 on that drive. And the PA out of the T Formation likely works if Nuss doesn’t get stepped on and have to throw it early while falling down.

Exactly. He had the most important assignment on that play as it was designed to go right up his arse. Williams took that exact path and was never touched by the man Campbell was assigned to block.

Like many I have been underwhelmed at times by his/our run blocking execution but it was perfect on that play.

Durham is a freshman. Does anyone remember losing a game to Florida in a similar situation when Derrius Guice ran to the wrong side on a must-score from the one yard line? Can't have mistakes in a must-have two minute drill. Go with your starters, not freshmen. Unless it's Bo or Herschel, and then he is your starter.

That was a great play call. With the snap coming as Thomas was moving across, everyone on D was sure it was gonna be the flip pass to Thomas (which we may have used in a similar situation earlier in the year). Easy score regardless of who ran it.
