Why don’t we see high recruits moving to the other side of the ball as much?

With the 2003 national champions being honored, it makes me think of some guys who were recruited at one one position, but played another. I realize most play both sides in HS.

Marcus Spears. He was the nations #1 TE coming in. He even played some TE his Freshman season. Turned out to be a heck of a DE. Could Pimpton or TreyDez Green do the same?

Corey Webster. He was recruited as a WR and played there his Fr year. He moved to CB and started some soph year. Lord knows we have tons of WRs and recruits listed as Athletes. Is DB in anyone’s future?

Michael Clayton. Outstanding on both sides of the ball and staying at WR was the best move, but he even played some safety for a hot minute when we needed it.

Yes, downgrade your offense to ineffectually improve the defense who is still coached by your DC

Way to turn any comment into a negative.

They couldn't hop in the portal if they didn't get what they want back then.

Yea I think it’s because kids have more power now. A lot of times, kids struggling at a position or behind a bunch of people could move to the other side of the ball. Now, they just transfer.

Devin White came in as a RB, most Louisiana recruits are playing QB most of the time in HS and make the move where they’re projected at once they get to college.

“The Jimmys and Joes are more important than the Xs and Os”. The reality is also, our depth is absolutely terrible. We have no two deep. That’s really what showed the most in Alabama that people have failed to see.

Advancement of the high school game has honed players skills into specific roles earlier than in the past.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if this still happens but we don’t hear about it because it doesn’t work out. They are recruited to their position for a reason. I’d imagine a lot of these guys play on both sides at some point during high school.
