Ohtani gets to do it and he’s a top 5-10 pitcher in the MLB.

He’s also a top 5-10 hitter in the league.

Skenes is not the hitter Ohtani is. He wouldn’t even be a top 3 bat in our lineup. If he didn’t pitch at all, he wouldn’t be a top shelf prospect. Ohtani is a freak of nature

Done with all the bullshite. These little punks that don’t know frick about baseball piss me off. Why on earth would any coach EVER consider something as stupid as this?!?! Skenes is gonna make millions and you’re gonna risk him getting hurt with a fastball to the skull?

I’d be more worried about a fastball to the hand than the skull.

But I get your point.

But there’s no need to get upset.

Being a two way player is not all that rare even for a 1st rd pick

But at this point he won’t hit unless he’s done pitching for the year

He hits the ball as hard as Tommy White.

If only…

He could add some power to an already powerful lineup

It’s way too late for that.

I’m sure he’s a good hitter. But he’s not gonna be a productive hitter having not seen pitching all year.

Skenes 100% wants to hit. You can tell in numerous videos they ask him about it. However, he understands why he isn't hitting.

You’re right, it appears he wants to hit. But we don’t know that, everyone just assumes Jay made that decision. What if the Pirates or Nationals told him they don’t want him to hit? What if he decided with his family, an advisor, and Jay & Wes that it was in his best interest to focus on pitching? Maybe scouts told him he has a better chance if he picks a position.

He hit .314 in 2022 with 10 doubles and 13 home runs. There’s a reason Ohtani is the only true two-way player the MLB has seen in a hundred years, as in a guy that plays regularly and pitches regularly at the same time at a high level.

Skenes will never have a pre-planned AB again in his career, and that’s completely fine

He can hit in game 2 of the CWS final after he’s pitched.

You probably won’t see Jared Jones bat this postseason either.

Well if one of the greatest athletes to ever play the game of baseball can do it let’s just go ahead and let Skenes.

So you’re asking why LSU’s ace, mind you, is not allowed to hit?
That's exactly what it sounds like he is asking. Maybe he wants to learn some of the finer details of baseball from a know-it-all like you. And instead of being a complete jackass just answer.

You laugh but it has been done. Around the 2015 era, Virginia’s ace pitcher also raked in their lineup in the games he was not pitching in. He was a lefty but I can’t remember his name.

He’s not close to the value of Skenes as a pitcher.
