Why don’t they allow Skenes to hit?

He could add some power to an already powerful lineup. I’d like to see him hit rather than Jared Jones, who seems to only strike out, or make it on base but get out due to a running error. Ohtani does it. Do you guys think he’ll get to hit in the MLB?

So you’re asking why LSU’s ace, mind you, is not allowed to hit?

Would you like to see him get hit and unable to pitch?

What if it’s Skenes who doesn’t want to hit?

Well, I figure it’s because they don’t want to risk injury. But he risks injury every time he pitches. I’d like to see an MLB team give him the option to hit, like Ohtani. Skenes said in an interview he really wants to hit.

And say he gets hit on the hand by a pitch and you lose him on the mound.

What's a bigger impact, Skenes DHing or Skenes missing starts?

I'd argue there's nothing he could have done at the plate to replace what he gave you on the mound. LSU is the #5 national seed with a clear path to Omaha. It worked.

It would be insane and irresponsible to allow Skenes to hit at LSU. He has a multi-multi-millions dollar future ahead of him. Just think if that future was ruined over a stunt.

Skenes 100% wants to hit. You can tell in numerous videos they ask him about it. However, he understands why he isn't hitting.

I understand why LSU doesn’t let him. But he obviously wants to. If I were him I’d tell the MLB team that drafts me to put it in the contract. Ohtani gets to do it and he’s a top 5-10 pitcher in the MLB.

While an important question, it falls behind the question why wasn't Russell Shepard allowed to throw a pass?

Of course a player can get injured at any moment, but they aren't going to risk it more by allowing him to bat where a number of extra things could happen. I would love to see him hit, but if he broke his hand due to a wild pitch that would be even more devastating, because it wasn't as necessary to bat him. And he is too valuable as a pitcher to this team.

Not saying you are comparing him to Ohtani, who does both in the MLB, but at least Ohtani has already gotten paid millions. Skenes has gone from a mid to late round draft to possible the top overall pick.

So….. if you understand why LSU doesn’t let him hit, then why did you start a thread asking why they don’t let him hit???

Seriously! Lol

How you responsibly manage talent is how you keep talent coming in the door.

That’s fine if the team that drafts him wants him to hit, he can start batting AFTER he signs his megamillions guaranteed contract.

As I asked others before, was lack of hitting the reason we lost the games Skenes didn’t pitch? What would his WAR be if he hit too? The risk reward isn’t worth it.
