Actually, this is one thread on the Rant I actually have enjoyed reading. It's crazy that we seem to be one of the only teams with any degree of success against the (deservedly) hailed Alabama. Nick Saban is successful because he is, however much I hate him, the prototypical leader. He strives for perfection, and he wants to win cleanly. Most coaches follow his example and fail against him because you can't out-Saban Saban.
Les Miles is not one of those coaches. Love him or hate him, Les Miles' record speaks for itself. He makes mistakes, he's goofy, and he's stubborn. He has made decisions that I've just sat and gone, "What the frick?" That said, he's also brought in some insane recruits who were just on another level, such as Patrick Peterson. He's won a championship, played for another, and won multiple SEC Championships. He's also the head coach of the only team to consistently give Bama trouble. He's a fricking boss of a coach, but he's everything Nick Saban's not.
Why do we succeed against Saban? Because Les Miles is everything Nick Saban isn't. He's not a perfectionist, he doesn't break headsets on the reg, and he always looks a little high. He doesn't try to beat Saban at his own game because that's a pretty damned hard task. Les Miles just tries to win in his own way. He knows that a strong running game and a stout defense is the way to beat Bama because it's less vulnerable to mistakes. Bama's so successful because they play a very conservative game and wait for the other team to jump the gun to try to take over. Les Miles knows that, and that's fine with him because he's a Big 10 guy. He's not going to change the formula to beating the best team in college football regardless of what anyone thinks of his offense or how he runs shite, which is another reason the fanbase is so up and down with him. We don't know how to handle the fact that the guy who isn't screaming and demanding a military like perfection is winning 10 games a season and competing with Saban. The truth is that the reason a lot of people hate him, his goofy, stubborn, wildcard personality is what makes him so successful, especially against Saban. Any coach that has Nick Saban on his toes yearly is no joke, and I guarantee if you asked ol' Nick, he for damn sure respects Les Miles. Nick Saban is a hell of a coach, and he deserves all of the praise he gets. He's a general, and all of his players regard him as such. Les Miles, on the other hand, is a guerilla warfare leader who has his team dressed up as woodland creatures to Al Gore Sex Attack the opponents, and as we've seen in history, that is kryptonite to a very structured, formal group.
Everyone at some point has wondered what the hell Les Miles was thinking or what he was going to do next, and it's absolutely frustrating to anyone who tries to understand, including someone who is so concrete and into the "system" as Nick Saban. I like how Saban's teams play and his consistency, but I also like having the guy that eats grass, says funny shite, and consistently beats what most consider the best coach in college football. Just to put it into perspective, Alabama has lost 6 games since the 2008 season. 2 of those were to Les Miles.

Especially when the talent level is fairly equal.
Is it though? We have and average rated class of 8.6 over the past 5 years. Bamas is 1.8.
USCw, texas, UF, FSU has out recruited us in the time span also.

We've also had a lot of instability in the staff in that span with co-DCs and now the offensive production. Once we fixed the D situation and Chavis got set up, our talent gets better every year on D. I don't think anyone would be bold enough to say there are many teams on LSU's talent level defensively. If we make changes to the offense and have a healthy line, we'll do the same on the other side of the ball, even though we already pull in studs.

It's not. Hell Auburn has recruited eyed than LSU 2/4 years.

They have, all the recruiting sites that rank players like bennie logan as a 3 star. And maybe because our coaches are actually good at evaluating and developing talent. Something they never get credit for. They just think the most talented kids in the country volunteered to play here.
We have 15 freshman playing from a class ranked 18th. You know the one fans had a meltdown about.

Not really, 09-11 chavis and the d were intact. The offensive staff has changed, but not a whole lot. And on d we only lost cooper from last year and the o staff is completely in tact.

They also think Les Miles had the program on the decline (after a 13-1 season and sitting with only one loss this season), and I'd wager that a lot of these "experts" would pick a coach like Dana Holgorsen to come have 3-4 loss seasons passing every play and scaring little kids.

Im just saying we dont have the most talented team. Bama does, UT does, FSU does.

Seriously who is wanting miles replaced? Wanting the offense to improve does not mean fire miles.

He is a good coach. great recruiter, and is a state with exceptional talent? Trick question?

This is why. Miles isn't a better coach than Saban, but he does have equal talent at his disposal. I can't think of a single person who has ever questioned LSU's talent level; it's our coaching that has been suspect at times.
Alabama and lsu ARE NOT EQUALY TALENTED. sorry, that has been bothering me lately. Bama has far and away more talent then anyone now.
Bama
USC
Texas
Florida
Lsu
Georgia
Oklahoma
Everybody else

Would you trade places with Bama over the last three years? Just answer that question honestly. Of course you would. It would better to have two NC's rather than zero, one undefeated season rather than zero, and to be undefeated this season rather than having one loss.
How do you say something like that? Hell, no, I don't care if they all can walk on water, I could NEVER wish we were Bama. Do you dump your wife and leave her at the bar because a pretty girl smiled at you? That's so low class.
I'll bet you had Bulls jerseys while Jordan was playing, then switched to The Heat when LeBron "took his talents to South Beach". Might need to switch teams again; the Lakers signed Howard and Nash. You go home from the dance with the one that brung you, if yo mama raised you right. Don't be so shallow.

Are you proud of being the only 2 loss BCS national champion?
Hell yes, fool. I could scroll back and find you a few pages ago pontificating about how the NC game was SOOoo much more important than the regular season, talking out both sides of your mouth, but really, this is so tiresome. Les is stubborn, we won 13 in a row and he wasn't going to change for #14, I get it, I'm over it. You should, too.

I would expect a poster of your age to be able to understand when a point is being made. Apparently you are incapable of understanding context. I will attempt to help you understand fool. That post was in response to a poster claiming he would be embarrassed if LSU won a BCSNCG with a mulligan like Bama did last year.
