For the same reason all shareholders of companies care about the company's performance; I don't want to see my investment pissed away. I give to LSU athletics through TAF and every time I see a 578 number on my caller display I answer the call and give even more. And the only return I expect on that investment is a quality product on the field. I don't expect championships every year but I do expect to be competitive and in the hunt at least until the end of October. I don't think that's a lot to ask of a football coach at LSU.
My opinion should matter and that goes for every other fan out there. It doesn't matter if you give millions or just pay for tickets when you can.

Does the reasoning change though? When you give to the red cross do you expect them to spend your money on hookers and blow? NO! You expect them to put it to good use and help people. You expect them to use it for what it's intended for. I don't donate to LSU to see LSU athletics turned into a national punch line.

I'm with you, Draconian. College football in the South is part of the fabric of society and a huge family and social occasion. Everything you listed applies to me as well, and probably millions of others.
The new argument of the pumpers now seems to be " football isn't even important, so why care?" Yet they're on a message board, so you can see their attempt at deflection.
