This is one of the fundamentals of being a top flight school because the university of Florida has stiff competition meaning that to get in you have to go above and beyond the average things such as grade point average. LSU has little competiton except maybe there vet school and maybe even there law school but overall not hard at all to get accepted. Just fill out application and like magic your in.
Big surprise there. UF has a total enrollment of 52,000+ in a state of ~18.3 million people. LSU has a total enrollment of 33,000+ in a state of ~4.4 million people.

quote:Raising tuition is not going to take LSU to the next level. Nor will the legislature. The graduates who benefit from LSU are going to have to give back. You're right the money is the answer. Texas has a huge endowment because of oil money. LSU doesn't, so we need our alums to make up the difference. If every single graduate donated every single year, then the donation per alum wouldn't have to be a large number to make a difference.
We are not going to have a great ranking when tuition increases are capped at 5%. In Texas,
there is no cap and the legislature does not monkey with it.
When LSU's academic prestige goes up, the value of all of our degrees increases. It is true that post-graduate accomplishments are important, but when your resume is in a pile of 50, the person reviewing it is looking at where you got your degree. He has to thin the pile somehow.

Try getting a job at an Atlanta law firm with an LSU law degree.
Then compare that with trying to get a job at an Atlanta law firm with a Florida law degree.
It's not even close.

I don't know much about Florida's law school either. But my point is that it would be easier for LSU grads new and old if the school raised its prestige level. To do that, alumni will have to give back.

is a better academic school than LSU. What makes it a better school than LSU?
Other than the rankings? Nothing.

I think this should go to all these beat my chest LSU knuckleheads that pound there chest to the LA. techs, ULL's,and ULM's schools in the state that LSU is so superior academically on the national scale LSU is nothing but a directional school academically ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I would say it makes LA tech, ULL, and ULM look worse. The rankings just put them lower with their other peers of big state schools. It definitely doesn't put them in the group of the other smaller school in LA.

quote:Well obviously it all depends on the degree. My degree, BLA (Bachelor of Landscape Architecture) is far superior to the same one from UF. I know that for a fact. The LSU School of Landscape Architecture is ranked #1 and UF's is nowhere to be found. Just sayin.
Because my degree from LSU doesn't get as much pull than the same degree from UF.....

Of course it would have nothing to do with the fact that LSU emphasizes preparation to practice in a mixed jurisdiction, like Louisiana, which is unique among the 50 states.
Florida is a more highly rated law school than LSU, but then it draws its core students from a state with 4+ times the population of Louisiana. If it wasn't more highly rated then something would be wrong with Florida. A significant factor in the ratings is the entering LSAT profile. Naturally, Florida will have a higher LSAT profile because it is drawing from a much larger population base. Also, reputation among practitioners is a factor. Since LSU's alums tend primarily to practice in Louisiana, in a system unfamiliar to most other American lawyers, lawyers who answer the US New surveys are not familiar with the school or its grads.
As long as the LSU Law School's primary mission is to prepare lawyers for practice in Louisiana and the improvement of the law of Louisiana, it will operate at somewhat of a disadvantage vis-a-vis schools like Florida because of the uniqueness of the legal system in Louisiana. LSU Law's role in the legal system of Louisiana is fairly unique.
Most law schools, even public state universities, do not have the kind of leadership role that LSU has in shaping the law of a state. Most law faculties would resist the kind of role that LSU Law has because most faculties want to have a more national focus. Historically, LSU's role has been more state focused, again because of the unique legal system that exists in Louisiana.
That said, LSU Law's ranking in the US News rankings (as dubious as they really are) has improved substantially in the last several years.

Here's my take: In non-elite industries, LSU is a great degree, because most people get degrees from directional schools you've never heard of outside the region.

LSU is the Number 2 Landscape Architecture school in the nation, and the Center for Internal Audit at LSU is the best in the WORLD.
How many schools even offer Landscape Architecture? I know it's a good degree (I've met some alums), but this ranking is a bit misleading.

I had more fun over my 8 years at LSU then I would have had in Florida, no question. Having LSU on your diploma/s is nothing to be ashamed of. LSU has a great basic science core, and my physics degree is just as good from LSU as it would be from Florida. My EE degree may not be, but that was just my applied MS. CAMD was a great place to be a student worker and do my graduate research. There are great opportunities at LSU, and it all comes down to what you put into it. That, and how much you party.
