it is probably more appropriate to compare departments and individual programs vs. the universities as a whole. I mean in the end it is the individual educations that are meaningful.

It is overall a better school, IMO.

Colleges are judges on which is the most presteges. It has to do with snob appeal.
Ivy league schools cost more and are more selective, so they are considered better--snob appeal.
It has virtually nothing to do with the quality of education being offered.

This is the SEC, academics aint really our thing. (LOL) The legislature in Louisiann has never put enough money into LSU to make it a national academic power

University of Florida nor any other SEC university makes my list and I have had most of their graduates work for me.
I am graduate Chemical Engineering LSU.
Among those working for me now are 2 Engineers from Cambridge (we know that one don't we) and one from Hangyang University in South Korea (the top Engineering School in South Korea, and he is undoubtedly the sharpest pencil in any drawer).
What is meaning of the best? There is no meaning to this. It does not depend on the university but the individual and what that individual wants to do with his/her life.
None in my group bother about what university is best. We all have the basic tools, the necessary experience and we know how to solve problems no matter what form they take.
I might add that LSU and its grads are a bit stronger since I have turned them all into Tiger fans. They have all been to LSU games and bleed purple and gold. Beat that UF.

True, plus harder to get into. Think about the amount of people that live in Florida. They are able to be much more selective.
I have a relative from jacksonville that started at ole miss last fall because florida rejected him...on top of that his grandfather is a BIG time contributor to the athletic department there...as in a TON of fricking money and he STILL didn't get in.

It also depends on the department. I would put LSU Chemical Engineering up against any in the South.
+1

Too bad his name wasn't Thorton Melon

Because the state of Florida supports UF much, much better financially than the state of Louisiana supports LSU. Its that simple. And to be fair, we all know that Florida is a much bigger state-population and tax revenue- than Louisiana. LSU does a pretty good job with the resources it is given.

Because we care about the Big Ten schools. This about the SEC, Florida and LSU. Read the topic dip shite. Point of interest to you maybe, not us.

Yet your point of interest allowed you to respond to me and my pointless post.
FWIW, it still showed where all the public SEC schools were located.

Yea but you were trying to put the Big Ten schools in there to mask your bragging. I know how you OSU homers work, you brag about your academic excellence all the time. At least you beat us in something right?
Posted on 6/27/09 at 12:55 pm to pimpshiznit
It's not even close. UF kicks our arse academically. I hope we improve, though.

Honestly, I threw it out as a reference point. Ohio State isn't even the top team in the Big10, nor are we above UF(Fockers ). Not really a bragging point.

You have no idea what you speak of here. A university is much more than research money, grants and prestige. It is not merely putting a bunch of fact and figures in your head or publishing research papers. A university is also about teaching its students "how" to think. It is about its importance to the community that it serves. No one university excels in everything. Some programs attract and develop students better than others. Is the University of Florida more important to its state (community) than LSU is to its? Do University of Florida graduates progress in life better than LSU graduates?
Finally, after 5 years in the real world, nobody gives a crap where you went to school. If you can perform you stay, if you cannot you are gone.

And to prove my point that you are clueless, I see you were born in 1989. That means you are not even a university graduate, unless you started at 16 or finished in two years.
Tell you what. Finish school, get a career, then come back in 5 years and make an educated statement.
