Why Do Some Of You Here Think It Is ESPN's Job To Promote LSU?

Obligatory TL;DR for the idiots. Now:
First off, I want to thank the Rant this morning for providing me with two things:
1) Entertainment
2) A Much-Needed ESPN Update (sarcasm, BTW)
The threads about Les' appearance on ESPN this week have me laughing behind my desk this morning. This is pure gold.
So, let me get this straight:
Les appears on several ESPN shows this week, and all they harp on are the SEC Championship rings while showing highlights of LSU's lone loss last year. Correct?
Ok, if this is correct, I have to ask all of you that are pissed about this:
Why are you suprised?
I've already addressed the pissed off fanbase about the #2 rings, but I'll sum it up again quickly: The LSU Football Office designs the rings. The design of the rings is approved by staff, coaches and players. No one in the Football Ops Center gives a shite if you, the fan, doesn't like the ring. You didn't earn it and you won't be wearing it.
Now on to ESPN and the negative highlight reel.
Here is something you need to come to grips with. I get bashed for this all the time in "Mulligan" threads, but this is the truth:
ESPN RUNS COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOW. Learn to live with it.
ESPN has the rights to the BCS Games, and, along with ABC, has just about every other major bowl game as well.
In 2011, ESPN's crowning achievement was getting the Harris Voters to manipulate the final polls and grant Bama the Mulligan. ESPN so badly wanted Bama to correct their mistake in the "Game of the Century That Didn't Count" because just about every idiot they had on their CFB shows either picked Bama to win it all in 2011, or at least picked Bama to crush LSU in the game that didn't count. (I know this because of this board. Again, thank you).
Having the coach of the tier 2 team that essentially had their potentially "greatest season ever" wiped clean because of ESPN's love of Bama, while showing highlights of their only loss, is a reminder to everyone who is in charge: ESPN.
That championship game in 2011 will further justify any potential "unorthodox" moves that are made in the future when pushing tier 1 media darlings into games they do not deserve. Remember it was ESPN that introduced the CFB world this year to two new phrases that will forever taint the sport: "Quality Loss" and "Eyeball test".
Why get upset at ESPN for flexing their muscle? They literally paid hundreds of millions of dollars to own the sport. It is theirs now to do what they want with it. I feel sorry for you if you think part of ther plan is to promote small market teams like LSU.
ETA: Yes, I am/was aware Chris Carter's son plays for Bama. Jeez. In fact, forget this part of the OP. It would be valid if I shared the whole story, but I'm not going to for personal reasons.

ESPN is dead to me, I only go there for the games. Nothing else. They have to much pull IMO.

The same idiots who watch every bit of their programming and have worshipped the network for the last 10 years (even in the face of shitty programming like CFL) are the same ones who are bitching now about the terrible LSU coverage.
News Flash: YOU GUYS MADE ESPN by watching all of their crap they throw out. Stop watching them (except for LSU football games) and they will not be so powerful.
I personally have completely stopped watching their non game programming and feel much better as a result.

I'm sure they are feeling the effects of you not watching, oh that's right, you are still paying for it. I got rid of cable and only pay for internet service. ESPN3 is free.

I'm not one to go on and on about ESPN and their coverage or lack of coverage of LSU
but that said...I find two things interesting in the big picture
On a normal day, ESPNU airs CFB Live four or five times a day.......yesterday it was not on the U....at all, just the once on ESPN...aired a bunch of spring games and such....this is the second time a CFB live program focused on LSU this spring hasn't aired except the one time- the preview show aired once on a Friday never to be seen again
so while I'm not a ESPN hates LSU guy....I did find it interesting that Les makes a trip all the way to Bristol and they only air the show once
just interesting is all

I agree with 99% of your post. A very well written, intelligent and fair assessment of the gatekeeper of college football.
However, I just had one small issue with this sentence..
Although most of their agenda is to push the big markets, (i.e. Notre Dame, USC, etc.) how do you explain their constant push for teams like Boise, a team who, up until this coming year, was not in a "Big 6 conference?"
I realize it may not be in ESPN's "job description" to promote so-called "small markets," but they do give a lot of love to teams in smaller markets than LSU, for what its worth.

Do you really keep up with this and if you do then why?

IMO, there is no such thing as bad publicity.........I don't care if ESPN likes us or not
Just keep winning baby and LSU will get all the attention they want and need.

I can look on the guide and see what's coming up or whatever
and when I know that a specific show will have either Les or a LSU segment, than I would like to watch......except when I get home and the shows that are normally on everyday at 5 and 530 pm aren't there for a replay of a spring game?
what's your point? that I need a life? no shite
