One is an official name of the University, the other is not.

Would you say "LS" and leave off the U? That's essentially the same thing. If you're going to use Louisiana State you need to add "University". I work on campus and was told never to use just "Louisiana State" in any publication or correspondence. It has to be LSU or the full official name. It just seems so much easier to say "LSU" than Louisiana State, but it doesn't bend me out of shape one way or the other.

The only issue I have with names is that we are not referred too as The Fighting Tigers enough.

I just find it funny that the polls in different sports are inconsistent with it

The marketing team at the University gets much more flustered than anyone else here. They are trying to build a brand -- brands are built on name recognition. They have spent lord knows how much money figuring out the best possible name, and they decided on "LSU". They want every media outlet to use that name. It's PR, pure and simple.

I kind of like "Louisiana State". Sounds old-fashioned, and I'm not a pretentious count who needs everyone to know we're the flagship university of Louisiana.

This, including not being that big of a deal.

I don't care either way. Several times I have been in other parts of the country with an LSU hat on and people asked me what it stood for. I told them Louisiana State University and many didn't realize that's what LSU was. I have learned that we aren't a household name in the Northeast outside of the college football world.
