LSU is the only team in the country save maybe clemson that lines up against bama like any other team. We try to play our best vs their best when we need to come out and play them like LA Tech would play LSU. They dont come out and try to win the talent battle they come out and try high risk high reward strategies and if they work you have a surprisingly tough game if not they lose big but losing is losing and at least a haymaker got thown.

They play better against Bama's 2nd 3d and 4th string.

Saban kept his starters in the whole game.

That goose egg was a sign of respect.

No one played Alabama consistently better than we did until O was HC.

Miles had one bad regular season game against Saban in nine seasons, and that was in 15 when we were down 13-10 at halftime and lost by 14.

O has been shut out twice at home, one a complete slaughter, and lost by 14 the other time when the game was over in the first quarter.

Need to get rid of the byes before bama. Giving Saban two weeks to prepare isn’t helping

If you want to look at the blueprint for a team "playing bama better", look at Auburn. They do all that tricky garbage with the read option running sideways throwing it at the last second kind of stuff. You guys probably would have scored some if you called plays like they do instead of running up the middle (which hasn't worked in 10 years) and calling the most vanilla pass plays you can think of.

Arkansas scored 14 points before halftime.
Tennessee scored 14 points before halftime.
Missouri scored 10 points before halftime.
A&M scored 13 points before halftime.

We've scored 10 total, in 3 games.

Mississippi State could barely complete a forward pass against us. I bet they don't get shutout.

May be as simple as this is the biggest game on Bama’s schedule and they take a different attitude into this game. Hard for them to take the other SEC as seriously as LSU and therefore more motivated than they are in other games.

That won't happen.

I don’t think that explains it. Certainly doesn’t explain the teams that play well against and beat Bama or come very close.

I think the OP is right. We have to stop seeing ourselves as equal to them, if we want to beat them.

Our defense played well, considering. It was too close for him to pull starters.

Bull, that's a bad excuse. Alabama gets up for Auburn, Georgia, and even Tennessee just as much as they do for LSU. The difference is over the past 3 years we are no longer playing to win the game as we are trying to keep the score close.

When you say, “a theory”, do you mean something everyone in the country that has any clue about college football already knows?

exactly. Bama's defensive line talent is either the best or right there with Clemson. You absolutely can't run it straight downhill or without misdirection. It's gotta get them moving one way and you going the other.

Maybe because 2nd and 3rd string is put in in those games. He kept 1st string in the entire game against us. HUGE reason why ‘other teams play Bama better”!

Mississippi States defensive line is up there with Bama's this year.
Most people just saw that we won rather easily against MSU, b/c Fitzgerald can't complete a pass, but we had 239 total yards against them, which is a pathetic offensive output more often than not. We scored 1 TD, that was gifted by the defense at the 3 yard line.

Tired of hearing about the talent disparity. We have more than enough talent to compete, everywhere on the field except QB.
When you score 0 points, i'd say that's more on the coaches than the players.

you should say the LSU defense plays them better than anyone, if that's going to boost morale around here.

i wouldn't lump the team as a whole bc it's a tale of 2 teams, really.

I agree with what you are saying

We played this game so traditional, punt on 4th and short, run, pass, pass, hat on a hat, blah...

We didn’t even do that vs UGA, we were super aggressive and it worked out.

For some reason we seem to think playing conservatively is the best way to beat Bama, even though we’ve proved over and over again that the opposite is true.

Playing conservative is exactly how you lose to Bama

I honestly believe that Bama plays us better than the rest of their schedule. They circle the LSU game, we are drilled into their heads all year, from the time they are recruited until they leave all they hear is "LSU this, LSU that", they have an extra week to prepare for us and get to get pumped up to play us and our game with them is always the focal point of the CFB weekend.

So, we get their absolute BEST effort that other teams don't. I'm not saying this is the only reason they beat us or that they don't prepare for the other teams on their schedule, but they are always "up for our game" and it plays into it more than you think.
