Why didn't SEC make ruling effective for next season?

The ruling was already in place for next season.
This statement is directly related to the exceptions that were made. It's why they are being sued.

That would have made the most sense. Just recognize the mistake this year and make it a rule effective 2027. I don't think anyone would have cared that much.

Lane Kiffin is starting to remind a lot of Trump. In the sense that anything and everything he does and says gets criticized no matter what it is.

It's a good question. He put the SEC directly in the line of fire for these lawsuits when even the NCAA wasn't willing to fight them...all while already accepting other TROs that allowed ineligible players to play.
The rumors I've heard are that they are intentionally trying to force the hand of Congress. I don't really think that holds water, myself.
Maybe this is part of a longer term objective of the SEC and Big 10 to separate from the NCAA and this is just a single move on the chess board.
But, it fails logical tests in a vacuum.

This is what happened. The sec’s first statement on this mentioned the bill in congress.
Now, if we assume the ncaa and conferences aren’t acting nefariously, they should have issued a blanket waiver for these players and called it a day.

I don't think they are trying to force congress hands I think Sank ee is trying to sink the ship! he is on a power trip and the Presidents of Universities are drinking his kool aid
