Why did we get away from our typical passing approach?

I understand having CJ out changes things up a bit, but does anyone else feel like we were trying to do things we haven’t all season basically all game? In the final drive we started to go back to Taylor more and quit trying to take the top off every play. Am I wrong on this coming from play calling, or was Nuss refusing to throw underneath?

Rewatching it, the firdt half nuss had immediate pressure up the middle on most pass plays, where dart got to sit back quite a bit, few coverage sacks where des just kept grinding and got home.
We also had 4 very big drops in the 1st half. Lacey for first down, Anderson on 25 yr crosser. And zavion 2 hit his hands for tds, 1 called back from a td and 1 dropped.
Late 2nd qtr nuss started adjusting to the pressure better in pocket, and I hope that 3rd down scramble for first down late in the game was a wake up moment to recognize teams dropping 7-8 and he needs to make them pay.
When a team shuts down 1 aspect of game, run, makes you very 1 dimensional, and they had a ton back in coverage. Add to this not having daniels, you have 5'9 and 5'8 for 66% of your wr routes, limits them to crossing routes, or deep post... which the wr needs to beat the db assignment enough for nuss to get it out in front, vs high point catches.
Wrs/ mason played unreal down the stretch, along with nuss slingin

Maybe to plan for other games whereas these pass routes that obviously opened up running lanes for Nuss will be taken advantage of by same.
He got the first down with his legs when he needed and it was very nice to watch it happen.
What I found very interesting was how quickly LSU could move the ball when it had to. When this team finally clicks on all cylinders, it is going to be very special.

Calling that pass in the end zone a drop from zavion is a little much. He dove and barely got his fingertips on it. No one is making that catch.

Maybe because some key WRs were out.

No one is mentioning the fact that LSU played a pretty good secondary last night. It makes a difference.

I thought ole miss’s secondary was the weak point of their defense?

It seemed to me like almost everything was a 20+ yard attempt

Cover 2 man coverage

that's what I had been told too, but they looked pretty damn good in coverage. It was hard for our guys to get open. Even the TD throw to send us to overtime was well covered.
I know OM has had some issues with pass interference, maybe that's what we were trying to exploit...IDK.

AND it was tipped three feet before it got to him. There is not a human alive who can react to that. He was lucky to catch it at all.

I heard we had more 20+ yard passing attempts this game than any other LSU game in a decade.

That’s also why Nuss had all day and was never sacked. Ole Miss dropped 7 or 8 most plays. 7 or 8 guarding 5 guys is advantage defense. Ole Miss leaned on that very good front they have but it wasn’t enough to hold Nuss off.

OM played their D very well especially in the secondary. That makes our passing O last night all the more spectacular.
I expect that Arkie will play us similarly. I am hoping their D backs are less effective than OM's.

OM front vs LSU pass offense LSU wins all day long. OM front vs LSU run offense OM wins every time. OM secondary is sus, but so are our WR’s, but talent was better on LSU side last night. If Nuss had run a few times when he had the openings it would’ve been to LSU’s advantage.

14 should have played in the slot a whole lot more.

The commentators on TV said that the coaches wanted for Nuss to become more aggressive and throw the ball down field. They also wanted him to run with the football more. They evidently discussed this with the commentators during the week and gave them information on the number of different length passes (I believe there are 3) in games since such records were kept. At the end of the game they discussed this and said that.LSU threw more long passes this game against Ole Miss than they have ever thrown before. So in this and the running they definitely took Nuss out of his comfort zone. They had wanted him to run at least 3 times but he only ran once except for the sneak for a first down.
They want him to ramp up his game in these respects as they continue to develop the offense. IMO this as why BK said at the end of the game about he admired Nuss and he improved more in this game than any other he had played.

I thought the game plan was bad for the personnel we had , but they eventually figured it out

Looked intentional to go deep more in this game. We didn't do it enough in earlier games, and a little too often in this game. Hopefully, we settle in to a nice mix.
