Semis were originally on Dec 31, got moved due to bad ratings on NYE

My tinfoil hat theory: The Committee is building a buffer week in the schedule to allow future playoff expansion.

Next season the semis are both on Jan 1. Rose and Sugar bowl are semis. Final game is Mon Jan 11 in Miami.

My guess is ABC did this because they had the Saturday AFC CG.
