The last iterations of the BCS computations did factor in human polls, so I'm not sure why we need a human committee.

Because the committee is better than the poll. The AP was not used in the later BCS rankings, they created the Harris poll which was just some retired journalists, coaches, TV people. The committee are professionals that meet and watch the games. I really don’t why people get so up in arms about it, like it would be significantly different if it was the BCS

ETA The NCAA has nothing to do with the playoff or BCS

You need both. Computer programs provide non-biased computations of team strength, and are able to make complex calculations humans can't. What computers can't determine are injuries, play on the field, and other factors.

They do not have the CBs and LBs that both LSU and Bama have at this point

This is how I know you don't know anything

Jeff Okudah is going to be the top corner taken in the draft next year and Shaun Wade is the #7 corner on the list below (he's been climbing all season and I've seen him as high as 21 in mocks). Oh yea we also have #18.

The committee was created to help keep legacy teams (Alabama, ND, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, etc) in if needed while bumping a possibly more deserving team out. They accomplish this by media blitzes and using phrases like “they pass the eye test”, and “most complete team”. They will over look facts that don’t fit their narrative and push inflated irrelevant stats if it helps their cause. The fact is that there will always be bias and the only way to limit the bias is doing a complete overhaul and going to a true playoff system, which we know will not happen. In the mean time expanding the playoff to 8 teams should help.

Part of the issue was that fans were tired of the computers being so "important."

Who are these fans?

Who the frick would want that??

There has always been a human element involved. In the BCS, the AP was 1/3 of the vote and coaches were another 1/3.

How the hell anyone thought giving coaches on active teams a vote in the fate of where teams end up was a good idea is beyond me. It is well documented that Saban voted Okie St. lower on his ballot in 2011 than anyone else and put Bama higher to get his team in.

what factors are used/not used in those "non-biased computations"? What weighting is given to those factors?

Who decides all of that? You got it -- humans.

I think LSU has been helped by this bias more than it's been hurt by it. I don't think the media is out to get LSU. When the Tigers take care of their business they get plenty of respect nationally. But until they get over the bama hump, it's going to be hard to take LSU seriously.

It's like Tennesse back in the 90s. The talk was, "Oh they're good but they can't beat Florida." That became all that mattered. Good team. Good program. Can't beat Florida. After they finally beat Florida they won the whole damn thing.
