Doesn't matter, Florida has a pitching staff full of projected major leaguers, they are one badass team

Serious question
We've already exceeded last season's sacrifice bunt total and we're not even halfway through the schedule. At the rate we're going, we will shatter the team record for sac bunts for a season.

I am jumping in without stats, but it sure seemed our bunting attempts were way down from the Cal-Fullerton series.
We were expecting the best pitching in the country, but after four bad bunts in Game 1, it appeared we stopped trying.
Related is our continued attempts to hit the ball out of the park when we had proven (even in Games 1 and 2 of this series) to be an excellent runner-moving team and were facing excellent pitching again. I thought Mainieri had found an outstanding method and the players had learned to bunt and to run the bases excellently.
I have always thought the idea was first and foremost to meet the ball with the bat and put the ball in play, unless you had superior power and talent that allowed you to do more. LSU, in my view, has the best set of hitting eyes in years; but for some reason, they keep trying to hit doubles and home runs with wooden bats.
LSU is still a good team. My gut reaction is this was a coaching loss mostly. LSU has good pitching (unexpectedly), good fielding (turning at least 6 double plays, a big reason we made Game 1 close), and they just need to play smarter, which they will do.

The double plays are nice, but you have to give the pitchers a lot of credit for inducing the ground ball when they need it.
Our defense has been a major disappointment imo.

I dont care how many times we did it correctly last year or if set a record this year, the fact is when a D1 player is called to execute a "SACRIFICE" bunt he should be able to do that (almost) without fail. This is not an area of focus at LSU and it never has been. Therefore we will never excel at it. With that being said there are more issues than not getting a bunt down. Bring back GORILLA ball and no one will be talking about bunting.

Yes Nola's numerous errors would have benched him but for his hitting ability. I expect that like Ott, they have girls (or maybe academics) on their minds, girls having been very distracting to me.

"Bring back GORILLA ball and no one will be talking about bunting."
are you suggesting we cheat and bring back the old bats, cause thats the only way its going to happen

Bunting a 90+mph fastball isn't the easiest thing in the world and a slider is even m,ore difficult. Most of these kids never or rarely bunted in highschool or summer ball. However I do think Maneiri is becoming bunt happy.

Vandy's the only comparable one we'll face this year.

We've got 2 guys (Hanover and Nola) that can lay them down w/ the best of 'em. The rest of the lineup is kind of hit and miss.

it has absolutely been a focus this year. It was one of our biggest areas of focus this offseason with the change in bats.
Once again you don't know what you are talking about

Gorilla ball is dead in college baseball
Florida may have the best pitching staff (from top to bottom) that LSU will ever face

Those days are over...you want to win now you have to have good to great pitching and be able to move runners to score. If you are wanting to see homeruns college baseball will be disappoint you this year

It's not like Maddox is throwing 97
Austin Maddox was a big strong catcher known for having a cannon behind the plate and was clocked by the Rays coming out of Hogg school throwing 94 on the mound

Bunting is one of the easiest thing to do in baseball.
Some players can do it very well though. LSU has been a strong bunting team up until this weekend. I dont recall Jones attempting before though. Was just a bad weekend for them. Prior to this weekend we moved runners over pretty easily. Looks like we need to practice more with the speed turned up. They just dont seem to want to square up to a 90+ mph pitch.
Some of it was just bad coaching choices though. Ross bunting on strike 2 for example with a speedy Ware on 1st. Could have just tried for the steal instead. My biggest problem with this weekend wasnt bunting it was the timid baserunning. LSU played a bit much not to lose than to win the game. We forced CSF into many errors by being aggresive and that has worked for us all season.

[quote] Why can't we bunt
I am not questioning the call to bunt or not, I am saying that when called upon more times than not we can't
[/qYou are either slow or you haven't watched the other games. We've been successful more often than not bunting. Our real hitting problems were revealed this weekend.Poor Trey has a terrible approach at the plate and is off balance more often than not.Unless he gets some coaching or changes his approach he'll be hitting 200 in a couple of weeks. Austin is chasing bad pitches and watching good ones. When he does swing at a good pitch he often pops up.Alex is a mental case right now and has NO confidence. Can't be a good hitter without being confident. I am rambling so I'll stop but before I go no one is CONSISTENTLY going to the opposite field with the outside pitch which is where pltchers live 80% of the time. All that being said lets hope Fla. pitching was the reason we looked so bad all weekend at the plate. The sky certainly isn't falling but I may have seen it move a little bit.
