Talent isn’t the problem. It’s development, mental toughness, and coaching.

Hess has regressed.

He hasn’t regressed. He hasn’t improved, but he hasn’t regressed.

The reason his performance seems regressive is that other teams all have his scouting report now, whereas as a freshman, they didn’t know to just lay off and make him throw strikes (he can’t, at least not consistently). They chased his off-speed stuff way out of the zone.

Those kind of mistakes (from a hitting perspective) tend to get corrected between a guy’s first and second seasons.

Hess just hasn’t really added anything he can throw for strikes with consistency (he can barely locate his FB and slider most games) to his repertoire, and hasn’t improved his ability to locate.

To say he’s regressed would be inaccurate IMO.

That describes Kumar Rocker’s night last night. 19Ks on sliders bouncing in front of the plate.

Baseball players don't get full scholarships and rarely go pro, so they pick a college for what it has to offer post graduation. Vandy >>>>>>> LSU

We don't have 1 pitcher like the freshman from gandy that pitched tonight

Cole Henry

3.51 ERA
1.15 WHIP
11.1 K:9
.233 vs BA

Kumar Rocker

3.50 ERA
1.12 WHIP
10.0 K:9
.242 vs BA

This is after a shutout while striking out 19 people

I dont think LSU fans realize how sick LSU's weekend rotation will be next year with Henry, Hill and Marceaux. Likely the best we've ever fielded here if they all come in healthy.

2 of the 3 have mysterious chronic arm soreness. I’d say coming in healthy is a huge IF at this point

From someone who lived in Nashville for years...Vandy recruits smart guys who can qualify for the endowment money to pay for everything, while keeping the limited scholarships for guys who aren't so good academically, but are outstanding athletes. Everyone at Vandy gets some sort of financial aid, so those scholarships are broken down into 1/3 or 1/4's. A buddy of mine has a kid on a Navy ROTC Scholarship, which pays for everything except dorm and food. When the kid was excepted to Vandy, they threw in a room/board grant on top of the Navy money, just because they can.

I sure hope so. But Hill has rested all year and still can’t throw. Henry had another setback.

We really need to evaluate the handling of our pitchers, but we will see if Paul agrees.

You don’t get that a once in a lifetime performance from an otherwise inconsistent pitcher =\= the sky is falling?

What a stupid fricking thread. You do know Marceuax was drafted before Rocker, right? We do recruit pitchers like Rocker.

Won't have to play against him next year. Probably not this year again, either.

Same thing we hear every year, then the attrition starts.
