Mostly because guys who want to work their way into a playing career can sign a contract with a minor league team and not fool with college.

Because you have to split 11.7 scholarships among 35 roster spots.

I think it's because of smaller schools actually.
I don't know the exact way to word it, but it's to make it fair all across the NCAA.

It's crap because most football programs can afford to support the other athletics.

I wish they would do something about this. Looking back now, my family is blessed my brother got a full ride pitching for USM in the 90's. And he made the most of it! I doubt he would even get that today.

This actually helps us in recruiting. Because of TOPS, a lot of times we don't have to give any scholarship money to Louisiana kids and give more to the top out of state kids than other schools can.

So do they actually split them evenly. How do they determine who gets what

Stinks

Didn't they restrict some of this in 2009? I think this is the article explaining it.. Worth a read.

No, they do not split them evenly. The more they want a guy the more they will offer, but academic scholarships pay for more of the schooling then the athletic scholarship does

The NCAA set a roster limit at 35 players and restricted the number of players on scholarship to 27 starting with the 2009 season. Before, teams could have an unlimited amount of players on their roster and on scholarship

It has been 11.7 for a good while now, but they set the 35/27 rule in 2009.

You know good and well LSU doesn't just play with the 11.7. They lost to a team today that does have to play with the 11.7 rule.

The use of lotto schollies is the most unequitable thing in college sports.

Can u imagine the outcry if Bama got 85 football scollies but LSU got 35. Well, that's what we deal with with baseball. I'm sorry but it's total, total bullshite.
